If I've taken English 1A, 1B, Anthropology, and Psychology at a local CC during my past summers, will I receive units for it? Are those classes considered breadth classes at UCI? Do I just ask my CC to send an official transcript to UCI?

Mysticorion:

Use assist.org to see how the community college courses you took articulate with UCI. If there is no course articulation for any of the classes you took, you will be only given elective credit. Most California community colleges work in junction with CSUs and UCs so they should transfer. They are definitely considered bredath classes at UCI. You can use Eng1A and 1B to take place of Writing 39B and maybe 39C if you pass the AWPE. You can be exempt from the AWPE by using the Eng1A class but don't do it! You can transfer the class and it's grade over to UCI! You will have to send official transcripts over.

I am confused on the whole "units" thingys....Is every class worth the same amount of units? What's the typical schedule for first year students??

Are there private piano rooms for students to use like the ones with sound proof walls? I know they have like 30 rooms at my sister's school.

bambizhar:

Each class is a certain number of units. One class is normally 4 units. Lab classes are normally 1 unit. The units basically determine workload. PE classes at some schools are 0.5 units. They are 0 here. The typical schedule is about 12 units for the first quarter and then 12-16 for the next two quarters.

Mysticorion:

I don't know if there are private piano rooms in the art buildings. You're going to have to look that up.

Mysticorion:

Such room do exist on campus, but if you are not an arts or music major, then it is really hard to try to get a hold of one to use. There are rooms for recreational use, but currently the sound proof rooms near Mesa Court are not open due to some reason. I am not sure if there are any of these type of rooms elsewhere on campus, but they do exist here.

jason:
i know this will sound very stupid and dumb, but what if i dont want to be in CHP? How can i withdraw from the program if i am an incoming freshman?

taniuxka20:

When you accept UCI as your future college, you can decide to not stay in CHP. Because I was not admitted into CHP, I'm not too sure about the process.

Does every freshmen relatively have the same schedule and classes? Well, the time might be different but the classes are not right? Is there any choir group there that I can join even though I'm not gonna major in music? Are you a student there? What year?
For the comment about Asians earlier. I'm asians too it's just that I see them everyday at my school that I'll be glad for some change.

sweetdream:

Freshmans will have completely different schedules because of standings and majors. Those who are the same major with no AP credits will be taking the same classes and so on. If times differ, professors may differ also. I'm a freshman at UCI. There are plenty of Asians here and you won't escape them. However everyone is different since they are coming from allover California. An Asian at your school may be different from an Asian in another. By the way...imagine yourself still living in Asia. I don't get how you can get sick of your own skin color. That's slightly disgraceful imo. I don't mean to offend you; I'm just protecting the face value of my skin color also. Sorry if I sound scornful...I just had an Asian person say that they're sick of Asians in front of my face.

I want more asianness.

i agree.

especially the hot chicks. :D

Yah! My highschool is full of NON-asians....I WANT MORE ASIANS! haha I love all people =) Can't we just all ...love eachother? haha...

taniuxka20: why would you not wanna be in CHP? just wondering..

how hard is the WR39 writing series?

do i have to be good at english to get an A?

whats the average grade in the class?

The WR39 series is definitely a hassle. I honestly had the worst WR39B instructor that would not help me. He kept saying one of my papers was going well but gave me a fricken B- at the end. That ticked me off so much. Although it's a great system (many schools do it), I hate depending on TAs teaching and giving grades all at once... The average grade in the class is a B- and there are about 2-3 out of every 23 students that get an A in the class.

jas0n:

who is MC? and what is ur post about? i have no clue what you are saying. ??

He thinks you're somebody from our dorm who's trying to annoy him or something. You don't sound at all like that person though.

Anyway, ShoeFactory, the difficulty of the WR39 series depends on how strict of a grader your instructor is. If you're lucky, you might end up with someone really lenient. I've heard of a few nice ones. =) But either way, it will take up a LOT of your time, so be prepared to work.

well i guess so jess067.

ShoeFactory:
I took WR39B, and it was a complete breeze. Our ta would take random days off if she felt as if she wanted to go to the beach or go snowboarding. Plus the curriculum that my class was structured after, was completely different than the rest of the 39B classes. However as jess067 said, it all depends on you TA. We had a very lenient ta who really tried to make sure that we did the best we could, and learned how to write. She was one of the best and i wish i can take another course with her. She literally handed out A's and B's. at least 80% of the Class got either an A or a B and the rest got C+'s. it was really good. i think jas0n is just bitter about his teacher that screwed him over in his gpa. However, as much as all the writing teachers say that what you write isn't going to be graded against your peers, but just on a rubric, it is human instinct and mentality to compare the essay you are reading to the ones you have read. So the better you do compared to your peers also plays a small but crucial part in your grade. If you have any other questions, then ask me on my thread.

we can choose who we get at orientation right ? lol

and i assume humcore is harder than WR series .... right?
