The TAs are actually kept anonymous to keep students from knowing. Humcore is definitely a more intense writing course. It is worth a whole eight units for a class with normal meeting times. In addition you have to read about one book a week.

so theres nothing i can do about trying to get an easier TA right.

so to satisfy lower and upper division writing classes..

which ones do you recommend?

how long will these take to complete? 1? 2 yr?

cuz i'm a science guy..i'd like to take out english classes as soon as possible...

also..can you choose your professor?

ShoeFactory:

There is a way to get an easier TA. First, you need to find one. Before class (on that day or before) find that person and try to add into that class. Waiting lists are usually full so goodluck with that though haha. Also, if you don't show up on the second day (the second day rule) you are automatically dropped.

gaia87:

To satisfy writing I would recommend the Writing 39 series since it's easier than humcore. It will take about 3 quarters to finish your writing requirement. You can choose your professors for many classes. However classes like bio and physics will have around 2-3 lectures with 400+ students each.

i'm not used to college system.. so 3 quarters mean less than a year right? 4 quarters in a year

how do i find easy TAs? and how do i know that TA is going to each the writing class i'm in? assuming i take WR39B...do you recommend anyone in particular?

gaia87:

There are 3 quarters in a normal academic year (excluding summer). Finding TAs is not easy. It's assigned randomly and they will be anonymous during the enrollment windows. I can't recommend anyone in particular because some may be new or some may have left to teach WR39C.

i am interested in playing some team sports, but on the UCI website i could not find that much information on them. I am by no means a pro athlete, but enjoy a recreational game every now and then

specifically Soccer

is there some kind of league set up, or perhaps a game a month or something to that effect?

if u could direct me towards the right direction i would be grateful

i'm just going to jump in here.

i am currently finishing up the humcore course and although it is challenging, there's a lot of reading, getting an A isn't easy, and the essay prompts make me want to stab myself in the eye...i think that humcore is better than the writing series. i have learned so much and the way i think and approach writing is much more refined now (or so i'd like to think) such skills are valuable in life and in shaping one self.

anyway, it was highly recommended for me to take the humcore course by a uci graduate and now i am highly recommending it to all of you (if you pass the writing exam.) any questions let me know.

soccerz64,
yes there are varieties of club sports you can join, and there are different levels. There's recreational where you just play for fun, intramural where you play against different teams within UCI, and club sports where you play against teams from other schools.

Sadly, I'd rather get an A than shape my self.

from what i heard, its hard to get an A in writing also

hi! if I got a 740 in SAT II Chemistry, am i exempted from taking the UCI CHemistry Placement Exam?? Also, do you only take an exam a day, or can you take more than one?

Its hard to get an A in writing... but still easier than hum core.

hi, i'm choosing between ucsd(sixth college) and uci for computer science major, and i have heard a lot from older people saying that uci has a better comp sci program. i see that you're ee major, so....you might know a little about comp sci right?
what do you say about comp sci, in uci or ucsd?

ShoeFactory:

the WR39 series might be easier but the reason why hum core is intense is because it is worth 8 units (the units equivalent to two classes).

breath:

UCI does have a strength in computer science. We have a separate school for compsci majors with the addition of informatics instead of the regular compsci. All in all, both universities are real good, and you won't exactly see a difference unless you are a graduate student. If you're insane, though, you can get a piece of it by getting close to professors and taking a part in serious research.

sup jason
yo I just a question about housing

are you allowed to choose your place ( for example either ME or MC) an roomate?
are bikes allowed....I should have no problem if my classes are far right?
an at last.......can you get your food from any of the dining places.....or you are only allowed to eat in your own housing's dining area?

mj300:

You are allowed to choose between ME and MC but not particular buildings. You are also allowed to choose a roommate if you have a specific person in mind. Bikes are allowed, and I use one daily. Biking makes it easy to get to and from class from MC, but there are a lot of hills to go up on the way to class. It gets quite tiring. You are allowed to eat at any dining place.

about how many classes do you take per quarter when your a freshman and what are they (more specifically if your majoring in biological sciences)
