jas0n's Official UCI Q&A Thread

hey jason, boy am i glad that you are here. i needed someone to answer my questions. yay. so i just got into UCI today. woo hoo. i'm soo excited. ok, so my biggest worry, according the freshman contract, it says that i need to maintain a 3.0 GPA for my senior year.

so is the 3.0 GPA weighted or unweighted?? and also, just checking, but does senior year GPA mean both, first and second semester?

thanks.

concerned707:

The 3.0 for sure is weighted at UCI. I used to know if it was cumulative or not, but I never bothered to remember because I had too high of a GPA to worry during senior year. Give me a little time to search it up. You can try to by searching old forums.

so i have to buy two parking permits ? (one for the dorm and one for the campus?)

thank you so much for your help!!!

dratinisunny:

As a dorm resident, I am not allowed to buy any other type of parking permit except the one for my dorm's parking lots. UCI needs to do this to help reduce parking problems.

Why would you need campus permit if you have dorm permit?
the dorm is practically next to campus, so you can just walk

hmmm so students have to walk all the way from let's say... Arroyo Vista to Health sciences buildings?

well i saw the map ... and health science buildings are kinda far away from arroyo vista (i want to be a part of the international village )

Does UCI give out a lot more parking permits than spaces available? I have heard from several people who go there that they are always getting parking tickets because there is no parking available. Have you (or anyone with a car) come across this problem?

o if you're talking about arroyo vista, then yea it's kinda far, but there's a shuttle from AV to campus every 5-10 min.

x3cin:

There are actually no parking problems all around the campus. All freshman park in the engineering parking lot and it's usually never full. People just don't like to park all the way up top since the elevator is on only one side of the structure. Just don't think you can drive from one side of the campus to another without wasting time looking for a spot.

Oh ok, thanks jas0n!

When do you actually sign up for housing.. is it after you submit your SIR.. or after the SIR deadline on May 1????

It's after you submit your SIR I'm pretty sure...if I remember correctly both the housing app and the SIR are due on the same day.

Hey jason.

I had a question, I'm appealing to UCD and UCI and someone told me you went through this process before too.

Well, my question is: how do you know they've received your letter? Do they update your myadmissions page when they receive it or do they only change that page after they've made their decision. Am I supposed to contact them asking whether they received my letter or not?

Thanks.

Send it certified mail with a return receipt. Then you'll have proof that you sent it, and when they receive it they sign a slip that is then sent back to you. I don't remember if they update the online site.

karupt- I went through that process right alongside Jason lol...how time flies.

I can't tell you about UCI but for UCD your admissions page will indeed change and say they are reviewing your appeal.

So if you are a mechanical engineering major, which dorm should you sign up for?

Do I need to choose where I want to dorm when I sign up for housing?

Yes, you need to choose where you want to dorm when you sign up for housing

for mechanical engineering, Middle Earth is closer to your classes since it's next to engineering complex. But you should tour both housing first, they're gonna have housing tours during explore UCI
