what exactly does this mean for my financial aid?
They pulled up my file for verfication, but my dad won't file until october 15.

Hello,

We do not accept tax extension. If you turn in your parents tax
return late, you will not be considered for the same financial aid
that was initial offered to you. It is very important for you to
submit the requested documents by the deadline that was given to you
which is 5/21/2007. Please contact our office at 949-824-8262, if you
need further assistance. Thank you!

Dear Financial Aid Officer,

You have request my parent's tax returns. My dad is going to file tax
returns on October 15, 2007, because he has a tax extension. What do I do?
What do I send in to the school?

To be honest, I know nothing about financial aid but sit tight. I told my friend to post soon. He might be able to help you (he's Kadya by the way).

Okay Jason I'm a bio major. Is there any music class for non-music major people? For example chorus or beginning piano or something? I want to learn how to play an instrument but I don't think UCI has that right? Beside science classes I kind of want to take several history classes too since I seemed to be good in history and memorizing stuffs. Is there any science related teacher that is very strict and I should be aware of? Do you think it would be helpful if I take a language class?
Btw, since you go to UCI, can you tell if these two places are close to each other or not: HIB 100 and HH254. Those are my testing places for placement test and I'm afraid I'm not going to get there on time since one of the test is right after the other one. Thanks a lot for answering

As a bio major, you need to be taking chemistry, biology, and either math, writing, or humanities core. This is a three class load. You may take more if you believe you are ready. You want to be taking chem and bio to stay on track with the rest of the bio majors. However the last two classes are up to you. For the third class, most students pick writing and finish math later. However, if you already know the first level calc and did not pass the AP class, take this to your advantage and start math soon.

To find info on teachers, try ratemyprofessor.com I really can't tell you much since professors are rotated a lot. I do know what professors are better than other, but no professors are posted yet. This is normally done to prevent bias in choosing courses. When they are posted, go ahead and hit me up with a question on this thread =].

Unfortunately, I have not found any music classes for non-music majors. You can check this site for a listing of all the classes:
http://websoc.reg.uci.edu/perl/WebSoc
The biggest problem is that there just isn't enough staff to teach fundamental music skills. However, you CAN enroll in any history classes. In fact, I'd recommend taking only history classes for your GEs. It seems to be something you're interested in. In terms of bad teachers, you're going to hit them no matter what. I won't suggest you anything. All I can say is go to ratemyprofessor, but I don't rely on that.

Taking language classes are to your disgression. I'll be taking fundamental Chinese next year.

HIB100 and HH254 are very close to one another. It's basically on opposite sides of ring road, if you know what htat is.

parents want to know how long i can stay in dorm

i looked at the UCI website but i couldnt find the info i wanted here are my questions

-Can u stay in dorms during summer quarter? is so how does that work do u pay extra (assuming i take summer courses)
-i understand move in date is sept 22, or 23 but when is the day u have to absolutely move out (if i dont take summer session)
-How good are my chances of getting a single?

i have a really bad snoring problem that my friend recently pointed out, and i dont want to disturb my roomate so i think it would be best to get a single

is there anyway i can indicate this on the housing application to get a single?

How exactly does placement tests and AP credit work? Does the AP credit exempt me from taking the test because I don't need the class? Or do I need to take the test anyway?

Computers-
I know it's recommended to bring a laptop, and I certainly will, but I also have all these desktop computer components collected and want to build a nice desktop computer out of them this summer. What do you think about having a desktop and a laptop? Is there enough room in a typical dorm to allow for this?

You live in dorms for one year and then you live in housing complexes owned by UCI if you continue to live on campus. Otherwise you go to apartments.

You can only stay at Arroyo Vista for summer I believe. If you aren’t taking summer school this summer, then don’t worry about it. You’ll learn more on campus.

You must move out the Saturday right after finals finish at the end of the year. Same goes with before winter break (mandatory moveout/cleanout period). Your chances of getting a single are slim.

I don’t remember the housing app that clearly, but I don’t belive you can indicate your snoring problem on the application. A lot of people have snoring roommates. They have to deal with it.

UCI’s new freshman count is now going to be higher. The later you tell them about it, the higher the chance of your admissions being revoked. I suggest notifying them asap with a damn good reason. If you have no reason, it was your fault and you will get your admissions revoked. I can’t help you there. You’re going to college. You should’ve gotten at least that C.

Placement testing places you into the right level of whatever subject. If you do not know chem, the placement test will tell UCI you need to take intro to chem (on extra class). You get the idea. AP credit exempts you from taking the relevant placement test. Placement tests will be held at UCI, but there are some sessions at other places. Mainly, it is at UCI.

I really really really urge you to be reading some of UCI’s sites. Your questions are a bit fundamental and easy to find answers to. Please please please read the websites. Use google to find any. Here’s the one for the placement tests:

do you know anything about the shuttle services from john wayne airport to uc irvine (or any other transportation means). because i might be flying there to attend my orientation so i need to pick the dates accordingly.

do you know anything about the shuttle services from john wayne airport to UCI ( or any other transportation means). because i might be flying there to attend my orientation and I need to pick the dates accordingly.

(srry if this gets posted 2 timez. technical error.)

Public transportation to John Wayne is not great although it is literally 5 stoplights away. I recommend trying to pull a taxi up by calling them or something. A lot of them gather up at John Wayne so calling them there might be helpful. You can find a taxi from there to UCI easily.

another question here, i have read some info on it, but was hoping for an updated answer

how important is a vehicle?

i will be able to work over summer and accumulate roughly $7,000 in spendable cash, but have balanced whether i should save the cash, or splurge on a motorcycle, and Full riding gear + insurance + gas

i will also be working during the school year but definately less hours a week

so, is it reccomended to get a vehicle?

Looking for opinions because i know there is no right answer, but basically i suppose Is the cost worth it?

If you're on a budget, you should definitely be vehicle-less during your freshman year. You honestly savea lot that way. However, having a motorcycle wouldn't be too bad since they are small and take up less gas. The insurance is definitely going to be a problem though. It seems like you're more in the mindset of going to school, working, and getting that degree so I would say you don't need a car. If anything, you can give it a try for one quarter.

i dont know if you know the answer to this question but, you know how we are supposed to take our placement test before the SPOP orientation right, so do we need the result of the placement test before we come or do we just come after taking the test whether or not the tests have been scored?

@sweetdreams
Yes you probably WILL need a car if you're going to commute, unless your parents don't mind dropping you off every day...

@buddy
I was looking at this today, and it said you need to have completed your placement tests (and scored) before SPOP. Scoring for writing placement takes 2 weeks, but the other tests are "instant" in a sense.
