Thanks for the input about taking over 20 units jas0n. I guess I'll be following your advice since i don't wanna drown myself with work. Aside from that, I was also wondering if there was a minimum number of students required to keep a class open or if it will stay even if there's barely any students registered.

Thanks for the help Jason. I'm leaning on the double major + single minor path. If I choose computational physics, I don't need to take any extra courses since the requirements are met by CS major and Math minor. However, if I decide to take philosophy in physics, I'll have the same number of courses as that of the triple degree plan...

The Breath requirement will make me take 12 courses. Another question, what's the number of total courses an undergraduate takes in his or her four years? I'm thinking about 3 - 5 courses per quarter which means 15 courses a year, which means 60 courses for 4 years...

This means doing a Triple degree is impossible and the plan with the least courses needed (Double Major in Physics and CS and minor in Math which totals to 66 courses with Breath) will need some thinking...

BirdKiller:

It's actually about 12 courses a year. However, courses can have up to 6 units because of labs and such. Also, some courses can be strictly labs worth 2 units. In that case you will have two different lab courses to take the place of one course. There are many complications so you can't really calculate it the way you do. Given the known cap of 20 units (I would not go past that as a science/CS major), figure out how many units you can completed in 4-5 years. Then calculate how many units you need to complete to get your double/triple major.

BTW, you can knock off breadth courses with major requirements and overlapping courses (courses that fulfill more than one GE req.).

Thanks again :)

Now I'm being torn apart to either Math/CS or Physics/CS equally now XD

I'm afraid I'll feel stupid for not being able to understand this physical world if I skip on Physics as major while at the same time, oblivious to the abstract perfection/behavior of this world if I don't take Math as my major.

Yet still, I guess compromise is necessary, which means I'm better off with Physics/CS.

Having double major in Physics and Math is absolutely do-able. My DaD did it. They were both his interests.

Physics lab courses require long hours. Computer programming may take longer hours.

The combination of Physics and CS is very good for your future career. Physics and Math may not be as easy to find a job.

I have a question.

If I don't have a car and don't want to ask anyone for a ride, what other ways are there to get to Disneyland from UCI?

TIA!

octa, the bus.

Bleh, I found out that it takes two buses and two hours. I have to find another way.

niklj:

Try the Blue Van.

The shuttle to and from the airport? That one?

niklj:

Uhh, it's the super shuttle services. They will bring you to other places besides the airport. I'd suggest having a large party or something.

jason,

when do we find out about our housing? ie whether or not we get a single room or what dorm we are assigned to and stuff.

also, is there any way to change dorms? or like change dorms nce we have been assigned them?

thanks!

Hey guys,
Well I went to orientation and my schedule is as follows:
Bio 93
Chem 1A
Psych 9A
Uni Studies 2

All of the writing 39B classes were full, so I didn't have the option to register for them.

Unfortunately, I am obligated to take University Studies 2, as it is a required class for undecided/undeclared freshman in their first year.

I've been taking Math 2A's equivalent (Calculus 1) at a community college over this summer and I've really worked hard to maintain the understanding that I have of it.

Instead of taking Chem in the first quarter, would you recommend taking Math 2B (if it opens up) and just taking Chem 1A in the winter, 1B in spring, and 1C in the summer? My academic advisor kept on saying that taking chem 1C in the summer is going to be really intense and hard, but I'm afraid that if I take 2B (in the spring), I'm going to forget a lot of the concepts of 2A.

summer is hard. it goes at double the speed. and apparently chem 1x is a 'hard' class so i guess your counselor is right.

but i honestly dont know. (though i would take chem in fall/winter/spring, if that means anything)

cal90:

As a bio major, math can wait. Also, psych 9A can wait. I would try not to take Chem 1C in summer. It won't be fun unless you like chem. I'm saying this because I took 3 community classes this summer and right now it's finals week. I don't feel like taking anymore summer classes haha. Anyway, doing chem lec and lab during summer is really a pain.

Thanks for the helpful responses guys. I'm not really a chem person, so I guess it won't be for me.
As far as taking courses at a community college, lets say you took a couple the summer after freshman year, does UCI give you credit for them (UC-Transferrable, of course) or are there some classes which they would want you take at UCI. I've heard that English classes are preferred to be taken at Irvine for credit.

One more thing, I'm just finishing up Math 2A at a CC nearby and if I'm going to take Chem 1A in the fall, I probably won't be taking Math 2B in the spring, will it be extremely difficult for me to do good in Math 2B since it's been a while since I completed 2A?

Thanks again for the great advice you provide to me and everyone else on here.

I know I can bring a refrigerator if it's less than 4.3 cu. ft. Can I bring my own microwave? If not, Is it worth the $200 to rent the Refrigerator and microwave for the dorm room?

eyebee:
Housing packets are sent out Labor Day Weekend.

confident:
You cannot bring your own microwave, but there should be one you can use within the dorm building anyways. And it would be silly to pay $200 for the appliances if you will already have the more expensive one.

If all the writing 39B classes are full.. can I just take it next semester. This might have already been asked... but if I add my name to the waitlist (if it has 1-2 people).. how likely is it that I will get a spot.

Another question... as a bio major.. how many major-related courses do I need to take in a semester?

I am only taking Humanities Core 1A and Math 2A for fall quarter. Then I will be taking econ in the winter and spring. I am a business economics major. Should I add another class to fall quarter?
