jason do you reccomend getting a meningitis vaccination if one is dorming? also is it possible to get this vaccination through the UCI health insurance program?

Thanks Jason.

dasherwinator:

I have never seen instances of meningitis before, but acquiring a vaccination is always a good move. I got the vaccination. If you don't foresee you getting meningitis, you can save money and skip the vaccination. There is a way to get the meningitis shot through the UCI healt center. My friend got her vaccinations there, but I'm not sure about the details.

Thanks again.

I found a problem: I realized that bio labs have a lot of prereqs (which require I take 3 bio classes) including bio 93. However, I can't take bio 93 because, according to websoc, it is restricted to school majors. Will this class eventually open for non-majors? It seems impossible to take this course unless you're a bio sci major.

Just get the damn meningitis shot (or die a horrible death).

To whoever asked about ISBN numbers, here is the key:

Add the books you need to your cart on the bookstore's website. Search for any other random book(doesn't have to be something you need.)

On the right side of the page next to that book description, the site will show your shopping cart. The books you added will be clickable links to a description of the book. Look at the address bar in your web browser when you're on the page of a book you need. For example the page for one of my books is

That number following "item_number=" IS the ISBN number.

You're welcome.

Chris you are brilliant. That is very useful thanks.

Do we wait until the first day of school to find out if we need books, or should we buy them now? If we wait and order them from websites, will they come too late for our classes?

WPM_Jon:

The coursebooks required for a course are already listed on the bookstore website. Navigate and find your course/section to find out.

Jason i just got a letter in the mail about the education abroad program. I wanted to know if the experience acquired through this program is useful for grad school (med probably) admission, and I also wanted to know how hard the classes are. thanks for the advice

Alright, so I updated my schedule recently and was satisfied until I found out I would be taking 6 courses on Wednesday:

8:00 - 8:50 (Physics Discussion)
9:00 - 9:50 (Economics Discussion)
11:00 - 11:50 (ICS 6D Discussion)
12-00 - 1:50 (ICS 21 Lab)
2:00 - 2:50 (ICS 6D Lecture)
5:00 - 6:20 P.M. (ICS21 Lecture)

2 Questions:

a). Is the above schedule even feasible?!
b). The schedule will change for the better if I enroll in Math 2B, but I can only do so after:
Enrollment in Math 2B, Lecture F/H will be restricted to Engineering and Computer Science Engineering until 48 hours after the last enrollment window opens.
So when is the opening of the "last enrollment window"?

If I finished Calc BC my junior year, with pretty much doing no math during my senior year, and I plan how to start the multivariable Calc sequence (2D) in winter, how hard will it be to do well in that class?

dasherwinator:

The vast variables in the EAP make it hard for me to judge anything. However, EAP has been known to be a great program that has provided many students an experience well worth the trouble. One of the biggest regrets among most graduated students is their reluctance to study abroad. In an academic standpoint, you will be able to see more of the world than just California. There are rumors that people who study abroad are more appealing to med school adcoms. I personally think it's not true, but it's not exactly the game I'm playing.

BirdKiller:

The above schedule is definitely feasible. You have enough breaks in the day to take a breather or grab some food. Anticipate wednesdays being hectic though. Remember, it's only one quarter not the whole year.

The last window this year is around mid-september I think. It's the last day of freshman registration windows. People posted that theirs was set for around Sept 16-ish.

ddbb:

First off, did you pass the Calc BC course? I took the senioritis approach to calc 2a and 2b at a community college the year before I went to UCI. I tottally regretted it. My calculus was weak by the time I reached math 2D since I didn't do any reviewing over the summer. Math can be forgotten or weakened if you do not use it regularly. Two quarters could put you at a bad spot, but you can easily review old material at any time. With a little more effort, you'll be fine.

Yeah, I got a 5 on the AP test. I plan to start reviewing now, bring a textbook or two with me down there to read/review when I have spare downtime on some days/weekends which hopefully should refresh at least some calc.

Finally, last question from me (hopefully), do you know how difficult it is to get into summer session? Is space limited for classes during summer? My plan for the first year includes taking a few classes in the summer, and I'd be kinda effed over if I can't get into some of these classes.

It's really easy if you don't need financial aid right away. I paid for the classes with my credit card, then received the financial aid after classes begun.

However, if you don't have a way of paying on your own, it will be hard to get into classes by the time summer financial aid kicks in.
