Ohh haha okay, thanks! I feel so stupid asking that question now =]

How does one go about getting a scholarship for UCI?

WPM_Jon:

First off, financial aid is rewarded upon the needs of the students. Normally students who place top in the applicant will be rewarded Regents or Chancellor's . Here is a website for more scholarships, particularly prestigious fellowships. They are VERY competitive.

http://www.scholars.uci.edu/default.asp

I haven't sent in my SIR yet cause I'm not 100% sure I'm going, but if and when I do, for the housing part, will I get to choose a specific phase for MC/ME (like list different phases for my top prefrences)?

I was just wondering if I'm allowed to change my major in my appeal (i decided to change after I submitted my application unfortunately). I'm changing from Computer Science to Spanish. Do you think it's likely that they'll reconsider me?

Do you know which airline and which month is the cheapest to fly? I might fly down there for the tour next Tuesday.

x3cin:

No, you cannot. However, you can choose themes and themes are normally stay with the same dorms.

PhotoShopGraffit:

Yes you can easily switch your major to Spanish. Petition during orientation. You'll change in time, don't worry.

Mysticorion:

Southwest is the cheapest interstate airlines. As long as you steer clear from the big holidays you'll have no problems with air rates. The rates go up as you get closer and closer to the flight date for any airline.

thank you!

Who should I talk to at the orientation?

So jas0n...as u kno im goin in Comp Science.
I have taken Ap Chem, Ap Stats and im taking Ap Calc AB, AP Physics B, AP Psychology this year..
which Placement tests would u recommend me taking?
I heard your Ap score can over ride the placement test...but Ap scores dont come out till July( i think somewhere in the mid-July)

PhotoShopGraffit:

You'll know when you go. Until then try to do it over the phone by calling the office of admissions or your respective school.

mj300:

The only placement tests you would need are Chem and English. Because of AP Chem, you can skip out of the placement test and Chem 1A if you passed with a 4 or 5. Otherwise you need to take the two. You can try doing the physics placement test (optional) if you are comfortable with everything covered in this website:

http://eee.uci.edu/06f/47100

You will take the placement test sometime in August when orientation takes place. You need to schedule it beforehand though.

jason:
do you know when will UCI start offering its highly anticipated Business Administration Major? I heard the petition was approved already by the whatever committee!!

Read it thoroughly

If you pass the placement test... does that mean you dont have to take that class.. and just move on to a higher level??

I've taken chem in HS but I dont remember much from it.. what happens if I pass it.. am I supposed to know a lot already in the next level class (or however it works)

Selina:

It really depends on the subject. For Chem, you must take it to place into Chem1A. For physics, you can skip Physics7A if you score high. For languages, they will place you into the level you qualify for (there's no actual "skipping" of language classes since there are 3 quarters per level - 1, 2, 3).

Hmm, I'm wanting to get into law enforcement (fbi) in my later years. Is the CLS program really that hard to get into? Is it as prestigious as it is in undergrad as grad? This is basically the only UC that offers my #1 major, criminology... is it worth it?

Also- is it really true that there's a BUNCH of Asians? I mean, if its true, how does the lack of diversity affect the mood around campus? (sorry if sounding demeaning or anything, just wondering.)

If you've seen UCSD, would you consider UCI more conservative than UCSD in terms of radical thinkers and people running around the halls being all happy-go-lucky? (Umm, i visited UCSD and started hugging trees, the students there kind of ... you can get the idea :D)

Criminology isn't that tough to get into. It's definitely one of the more prestigious programs on campus.

And...a non-Asian speaking here. Yes. There are a bunch of Asians, and while some will deny it, it does affect diversity on campus at times. A lot of them can seem very cliqueish at times. Though that's not to dissuade you at all; you'll meet a ton of people, I have friends both Asian and non-Asian; everyone's different.

Do you believe that choosing UCI was beneficial towards your future? Was it a good investment (how do jobs see this school as)?

Anybody in CLS? How is it?

OH i've got a good one, how does a typical day/weekend go for you around campus?

kaii:

The high asian count can definitely feel cliquey as Chrisr88 said, but the Asians are always welcoming people of any ethnic background to join them. Don't be afraid of talking to a group of people even though they are all of the same skin color.

A typical day is so hard to explain since college has a huge diversity of students. When I mean diversity, I don't mean different skin color, but I mean different mindsets, interests, hobbies, etc. Being in a school of over 20,000 students is a huge difference from a high school of only 2-4k. Each person approaches school a different way. Some may not put so much effort because they do not enjoy it which is respectable in my opinion. Some may be studying every second they have between class and after class.

Jason,

I'm in the midst of chosing between UCD and UCI, and UCI seems to have a leg up at them moment because of the concentration it offers in "Game Culture and Technology."

Firstly, do you know anything about the program? Or anyone who has tried to get into it/has gone through with it? I believe I read that there are only 12 students accepted per year, and I'm confused as to what that would really mean.

Secondly, there are three majors it's listed under (Studio Art, C.S., and "Informatics," I believe) -- how does this work (if you know)? Do you get a combined degree, flip a coin and just choose one?

I don't know if I have a shot, but hopefully being a girl will give a bit of an "edge" in the field. Thank you! (I think this is probably obscure, so don't worry if you can't answer anything.)
