jazz piano at William Paterson

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts to share about William Paterson for jazz piano. We've heard that their program is well thought and I'd love anything you folks can share. thanks very much!

We visited WPU last spring during an open house and there happened to be a couple of ensembles performing that afternoon with Randy Brecker. The student musicians were amazingly good. . . I don’t know specifically about piano, but all the students we saw seemed very bright and happy. It’s definitely on my son’s list.

Thanks very much!

My son did not apply there as did not feel he was good enough but he attended their summer jazz program for two years and really enjoyed it. WP is a world class college for jazz but the low cost especially if you are a New Jersey resident and its location close to New York City means that many international students apply so the level of competiton to get in is very high. All of the professors are working jazz musicians in the NY scene. If you are looking to do jazz at college I think you have to look at WP alongside North Texas and maybe Eastman as well.
