Hi everyone! Just popping in to say hello. I’m from southeastern Virginia, haven’t heard anything about interviews yet. Thanks for creating this thread!
Hello everyone! I’ve applied as well. Nervous, but excited. Even if we all can’t get the Jefferson Scholarship, it’ll be interesting to see where such a talented group ends up!
@peytonmg I totally agree! I heard that there’s a good amount of Jefferson nominees who end up attending UVa, so maybe we’ll run into each other on campus some day.
@hogwarts2019 I bet you’re right. I think just the process - the application, the interview, the extra time - all of that might make a person want to go to UVA even more.
Good luck you guys! I did everything i could to have my school eligible to nominate students, but UVa said no, which is a bummer because the private schools and richer schools nearby who send fewer students to UVa ARE eligible.
Just got the email for a regional interview.
@whitespace what state are you from?
@JTlover12 Missouri.
My son’s interview is scheduled–he got an email from the Regional Committee chair. It is not clear, but insinuates, that at least some people are not interviewed.
Also just got an email, it also mentions an optional reception held at a home to discuss UVa and the Jefferson Scholars program; did anyone else get something similar?
(I’m from NC)
I just received an email for the regional interview! I’m from Northern Virginia. Good luck to you all!
My email didn’t include anything about discussing a program, just the interview with directions on how to get there.
I didn’t even get an interview. Does this mean I won’t even be competitive for admission at UVA in general?
^also, my written application was really rushed and I used a horrible leadership essay and my common app essay (scared since I used the common app for every other school I applied to). Does the Jefferson scholarship rely more heavily on the essays than the transcript, when compared to normal admissions?
Does anyone know how many are not given the first interview?
It definitely depends on the region. I’m pretty sure in my city everyone got an interview. Also, yeah I’m pretty sure transcripts and essays ar eeither equal or essays are weighted more heavily. I’ve heard the interview is weighted most heavily
@BostonBrotha I would definitely wait a little longer for a notification about a regional interview. The interviews vary within location so you may hear from the chair later. They sent an email earlier stating that the scholarship is not affiliated with UVA admissions itself other than if you are rejected from an early action application. In that case, you would be disqualified from being considered for the scholarship.
I had the opportunity to meet some of these Jefferson/Echols scholars when I stayed overnight at the school this past November as a prospective student. The dorm where all these scholars live together is very, very nice. I was able to spend the whole of Friday (as well as the overnight stay) with my host and his floor mates. All of them were so smart and accomplished, yet so grounded and nice. One of them (not even my host) even walked me around the whole campus for almost 2 hours and we had an amazing discussion.
I am sure all of you will have lots of fun going through the selection process. Good luck with the interviews!!!
So I got an email about an interview and I have one scheduled for next week as my “first round interview.” The email I received also mentioned a “second round interview” but was not clear whether this is something all attend or only those who make it past the first round attend. My concern here is that said “second round” interview is the same day as a prestigious track invitational meet and I need to know if I will have to miss one or the other or whether its even possible to miss something. Thank you!
@morningckrets I received an email saying I was not chosen for an interview
Got an interview about an interview today. I’m from southeast VA.
