Post your stats

Did you apply for this? Seems like no one else did.

I applied, sorry for being lazy but if you want my not-so-impressive stats, you'll have to go to this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=6357

As I've said, I doubt I'll get it. They only pick 30 recipients out of a pool of 900 nominations!

It is a long list, but I do not know if it will be enough. My essays should be good enough, but I am not the strongest communicator. I think that the interviews and conveying your thoughts in these interviews are the most important aspects of the application, not the laundry list or activities. Still, I hope to at least make it to National Selection Weekend.

Good luck to all of the Jefferson Scholar Nominees in their insuing interviews.

I'm from northern VA and got my school's nomination. My stats: 1/400, 1460, 780/700/690, decent ECs, etc.
BTW: It's "Jefferson Scholars" not "Jefferson's Scholars". HTH

An interesting article about Jefferson Scholars:

Anyone know when we'll be contacted about an interview? (That is, if we're going to be contacted at all). The letter said sometime around January but I was wondering if anyone has heard yet.

Also, being a Jefferson Scholars nominee will help with admissions to UVA, right? Or am I totally off-base with that assumption?

Thanks!
Lauren

from what i understand , after the nomination comes an interview..sometime in the winter....as far helping with admission, i don't believe that it helps at all with admission

Did anyone else recieve a letter from the Foundation naming the regional director and when interviews will begin?

Yep, I received that a few weeks ago. In the letter it said interviews will take place in January, so I was just wondering if anyone has heard yet.

Nagah- Being nominated won't help with admissions? Wouldn't that be bad if someone became a Jefferson Scholars finalist yet they weren't admitted?! Just wondering!

I don't think that would happen. A nomination doesn't necessarily affect admission, but if you were offered a Jefferson Scholarship, I think you're in.

It probably helps in some way...but most of the people nominated are fairly competitive applicants to begin with.

I personally know a student who was nominated by their school last year was rejeceted....the scholarships are given by private donors, it is a separate organization..I thought the same thing until I talked to this person...anyway, good luck to all who were nominated

Yeah, you're right. A nomination does not guarantee admission, since Jefferson Scholarships are funded by the Alumni Association. But if you make it past the regional competitions and are invited to Charlotteville for the final round of the selection process, the Admissions Office knows who you and the other finalists are. So, if you're offered a Jeff Scholarship, I seriously doubt the Admissions Office would turn you down.

I guess out of state it may not help, but I would be willing to bet that an overwhelming majority of instate nominees is accepted.

yes i agree with that cavalier, the in state schools probably have alot of applicants compared to the out of state schools and they can only nominate one student..in some cases the out of state nominee may be the only one applying...after you get the interview i am not sure but i think that they narrow it down to about 80 or so applicants to come to the school for the next step..i would imagine if you got that far your chances would be spectacular.
I am not sure but is the regional competition the interview itself?

Yes,the regional competition is the interview in front of a committee of people, many of which were former Jefferson Scholars.

Did anyone else just get an email about setting up a regional interview? Does everyone get a regional interview or did I make it past the next step, lol.

Thanks!
:)

hmmm... i think you made it to the next round. i was nominated from my school, but i haven't gotten anything. and quite frankly, i don't think i have a chance at the scholarship anyway. but whatever, i got into UVa early and that's all that matters :)

Congrats on getting in, Haligh! That's awesome! I still have to finish my RD app, which is crazy because the Jeffersons app was so long!

I did some more research and apparently after the regional interviews, 1 candidate from each region is chosen to go to the selection weekend. I would die of happiness if I made it to that round. Let me know if you hear anything, Haligh and others!
