Jersey girl needs advice on ED app! =]

Hey, I see that chance forms become a little redundant ("it's a crapshoot," "you can never be sure," etc.) and tend to come across as boastful, but I'm really curious as to what current/past/parents of Rice students think my chances would be for an ED admission.

More importantly than my "chances", I was hoping I could get some advice on Rice's tendencies with early decision admissions in general and how I can weave that into my application. No one has gone to my school from Rice (generally, the top 10% graduates apply to all the East Coast schools that didn't tickle my fancy haha), and so I can't ask past graduates from my high school.

I've visited Rice twice and I'm CRAZY about it; lots of kids in my grade and all of my friends know that I am, and if they see my stats here, they'll know it's me. Doesn't matter =] I love Rice, and it would be wonderful if I could just get an application accepted and be done for the rest of the year!

Thank you so much in advance!

I don’t usually respond to chance threads, but you’ve asked some pretty specific questions here. You’re extremely well qualified, and you seem to know Rice well…and you say that financial aid isn’t something you require (at least that’s how I interpreted what you said). If that’s the case, you seem like an ideal ED applicant. You have everything to gain in applying ED and nothing to lose. There’s no guarantee, of course, but unless you think there’s another school where you might want to apply ED, or you’re concerned about financial aid, I can’t see any downside to your applying ED. Good luck, and I hope you’re another happy Rice student next year!

Your chances look very good, but again, you are not a shoo-in either. Being out-of-state helps, since half of Rice’s student body is from Texas. Good luck!! I hope you become a Rice Owl next year.

You look like a strong candidate. Your essays will be a important addition to your good grades and scores, so take time to make them great! I’d recommend being specific about what you discovered at Rice during your 2 visits that attracts you as well as what you’ll add to the community. To quote from another post, make your essays “personal, honest, detailed, and revealing” so that the readers really get to know you. If the essays could be written by anyone else, they’re not personal, honest, detailed and revealing enough. Good luck to you! Rice is an amazing place.

My son went from Long island and now he’s a very happy recent graduate with a great job. He loved his time at Rice.
I think there are a couple of advantages you have:
No one from your school has been before
You don’t need financial aid (I think that does help, even though they would never admit it)
Show your PASSION for Rice. Every school wants students who really want to go there.

Good luck :-)!

Don’t usually respond to chances thread. But as the parent of a Rice grad from a public high in NJ, I’d say that your chances are slightly better than excellent. Rice has many applicants with very high stats like yours, but most do not apply ED. I’d bet that you will see the thick envelope early.

if you dont qualify for fin aid, you are definitely in the running for merit aid

you’re gonna love the mob (marching owl band)
like they say though, the mob isnt like ordinary college marching bands
its pretty chill and we have a great time, check it out if you havnt already

Ahh! I really want to get in; thank you so much everyone for your positiveness!! =]
