We have a JHU rep coming to town in 2 weeks and D wants to hear what they have to say. She likely has a decent shot at admission, though not necessarily a slam-dunk.
Yet it’s hard to tell what major at JHU would be a fit with a goal of communications at undergrad level, since that seems to be more in the wheelhouse of the U’s who have media schools. JHU’s Writing Seminars program appears to have a fiction/poetry emphasis and it looks like their Communications program is grad level.
I’m posting because quite honestly this is our struggle with LAC’s in general, since she may or may not want to do grad school right away. She feels drawn to smaller schools at this point, which could change (acknowledging JHU isn’t small). Thoughts?
I’d move this to the JHU page which should hopefully get people familiar with the programs at that school.
Thanks @happy1 for the suggestion. Newbie member and haven’t navigated much outside the Parents Forum yet. Would you be kind enough to provide a link?
And at some point, based on responses, I may start a new thread here with the same top-line inquiry but about LAC’s in general. That’s really our overarching question here.

There are many threads on CC comparing LACs to universities. I suggest you read through some of those first.
What’s the best way to search those out? “threads on CC comparing LACs to universities” CC is such a huge haystack. Any guidance appreciated.
There’s a post on the JHU page “Is JHU any good for journalism?” that’s been there a week with no responses, so I may pause before moving this over. Although there’s some other great stuff there that I look forward to reading.
If you follow the format provided above - talk.collegeconfidential.com/name-of-school/ you will see all threads related to said school and can search through topics as well as the accepted students threads from past years to see how your kid stacks up. Just plain searching topics works pretty well too as CC has pretty robust search technology, like you suggest above (“LACs vs Universities” or “Best journalism schools” or “Best liberal arts colleges for journalism”. You will be on here for days sifting through the gobs of info! Good luck!
