Got acceptance letters from following BME programs/schools:

JHU
Duke
Case Western Reserve
U of Michigan and U of Berkley

Here is the KICKER, CWRU will pay merit based tuition in full (nearly 28K/Yr) so my folks will have to add Room/Board for 12K. At JHU and Duke, I will have to pay sticker price. Financial Aid is not an option. My parents are supportive and will respect my decision. I love math, physics and may pursue BME as career, but wish to also consider option of Med school.

The issue to me is:- Is going to JHU or Duke (I know the ratings and name recognition) worth the difference at undergraduate level.

All of you intelligent student gurus, parents, as well as current JHU/Duke/CWRU grads, post your honest opinion. I will appreciate it so very much.

gursugar - CWRU is a great school and very well known in all the areas you want or might want to study. CWRU has a "one-door" admission policy which means you have been admitted to all majors that they offer which in your case sounds great. Plus, if you do decide to apply to med school later on I know that they place students into all the top schools (they are considered a "feeder" school). Good luck with your decision.

Wow, great schools for BME. you can not go wrong with CWRU in BME. i think it is fairly prestigious for BME. it is ranked in the top 5 BME undergrad programs (US News). and you'll be saving alot of money!

From what I hear JHU is very competitive and it really hurts the undergrad experience (unless you're into that). I feel that grad school should be competitive. undergrad is a time to learn and grow. High school matures a person from a kid to a young adult and undergrad takes you into full adulthood. Plus if you plan to go to grad school no one hiring you will care so much what undergrad you came from. My opinion, take the money instead of the loans. Grad school will cost twice as much anyway. Take loans then.

I just looked at the engineering specialities in US News grad guide for 2006 and JHU ranks 1 for bme and I don't even see duke on the list. JHU is also one of the top few for ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING, which is not surprising because JHU is one of the best schools for Biology and Earth & Planetary Sciences.
