Why is the counselor rec only “good”? Anything you can do to work on that?

The Counselor at my school is new, he has been traveling through International schools for quite some time, I don’t think he will get to know me enough for a “great” rec. Thus, why I defined his rec as “good”

In all honesty, I think given your ethnicity, excellent scores, and good ECs you have a very good chance at Brown ED. I have a peruvian friend with a 2070 SAT 93/100 GPA, scores which are not even close to yours, and he got into Cornell RD last year.

You have good stats and are a great candidate for either schools so it boils down to more than just academics. Where would you feel more comfortable? Baltimore or Providence? JHU has its proximity to Penn, New Jersey, DC, etc. whereas Brown is closer to Boston and NY. I was deciding between the two also but ultimately chose JHU for ED simply because I felt better fit to the student body. You can PM me any questions if you want more specific, personal answers about the school and student life. :slight_smile: Best of luck!

I agree with @annoyingorange that Cornell is outstanding for Biology. You should at least consider it.

@annoyingorange NICE!, Peruvian Represent :stuck_out_tongue: Was he a US citizen or International Applicant???
@Much2learn Haha, I dont think Cornell is a fit for me, but you sure are right, it has a great Bio program.

Are you interested in pre med or a Phd?

@Much2learn pre-med and then Med school. Med school pref. at JHU. I was thinking of doing BS and JHU and then try and stay for med school, or BS and brown and med school at JHU. Hard but doable :stuck_out_tongue:

I think I recall that Brown has a direct admit to Medical school program. Have you considered something like that?

I didn’t know!!! Thanks

If you can, spend some time with your new GC so he or she can get to know you better. A “great” rec from the GC can make a difference.

Also, additionally consider applying to a few LACs that have a great track record for getting students into MD or PhD programs. There are just too many applicants to the very top schools who find themselves sweating it out at the end of March with few admissions, and very few options. Places like Denison, Rollins, Earlham, College of Wooster, Union, Kenyon, DePauw, Beloit, Sewanee, Furman, St. Lawrence, etc. provide a top science education that is competitive with the elites. While not always internationally known, these schools are highly respected by med school adcoms. If you were able to visit the science quad at Kenyon, for example, I think you would be really impressed. And students at the LACs often have a greater opportunity to conduct undergraduate scientific research, which is valued by med school adcoms.

@MidwestDad3 Thanks!!!
