Chance Me please!!( Leave link and i’ll chance back) Thanks!
I’d say you stand a really good chance ED. Your EC’s are good and show passion, your class rigor is good, you’re a URM and international applicant. You can’t really ask for much more than that. I’d say if one thing will trip you up it’s your GPA given how competitive JHU Bio is to get into, but I think awesome recs, essays, and other parts of your application will outweigh that.
Best of luck!
Thanks! Need me to chance back?
@codemachine
No thank you, I don’t need chances yet
I think you have a huge chance ED, given your extracurriculars (especially the international ones). Basically everything @codemachine said applies.
Keep in mind there’s also context: how competitive is your private school? Do you know many peers applying to JHU/Ivies/other prestigious universities? How do their ECs and stats stack up against yours? The less competitive your peers are, the more you’ll stand out to the unis and the higher chance of you getting in.
Good luck!
My chance is here btw

My School is very competitive, the used to send 1 every year to an IVY, but now the send like 1-10 to highly selective universities. I’d say the leve has not gotten better. by the way, will the JHU Alumni Additional Rec, weigh a lot?
@uhhhhhhhhhh
I honestly have no clue when it comes to JHU’s recommendations, but I know at least for Penn (I went to a summer camp there and had the chance to talk to some of their admissions officers), additional recommendation letters are only useful if he/she writes unique things that give admissions a better idea of who you really are (and their admissions decision basically reflects whether they think “who you are” fits their university and its programs).
If he/she’s writing the standard, cookie cutter recommendation letter, I can imagine how it could still make a positive impact since he/she is an alumnus, but I wouldn’t see it as a significant addition to your application.
Now, if the letter IS intriguing, unique, and by an alumnus, I can definitely see it helping a lot more than the previous situation I just described; but again, recommendation letters only go so far in helping officers make a decision.
You seem like you have a decent chance at JHU, which would definitely be boosted by applying ED. I’d say it’ll be a low reach, but I’m sure stellar essays and glowing recommendations will complement your solid ECs and help your application tremendously.

What is your rank/percentile? This could possibly make a difference.
@codemachine
School doesn’t rank but probably top third
I definitely think that you have a decent chance at JHU. JHU is a high match/low reach for you. The average GPA is a 3.74, and yours is a little under that. However, I think that this is the only thing that would hold you back. The middle 50% SAT score range is 2000-2280, so you’re above that (which will help). I’d maybe suggest planning on taking the SAT one more time just to see if your score can improve at all. Either way, I think that you’re set with the 2300. Being a URM and first generation college student will help. Your ECs and volunteer work also look impressive. I think it’s to your advantage that one of your letters of recommendation is coming from a JHU alumni. Applying ED is definitely going to give you a big advantage. If possible, I would try to get your GPA up to a 3.7, although you showed a huge upward trend (going from 3.3 to 3.9). Make sure that your letters of recommendation and essays are superb, and I think that will give you the “edge” that helps you get in; these will make up for your low(er) GPA. As long as the letters and essay are great, there’s nothing really holding you back. I think the rest of your transcript and application parts make up for your GPA. I’m not 100% sure, but I definitely think you have a very high chance of getting in. Good luck!!!
Chance me back please??

@FuturisticMD Hi- I am curious… You list KIC as one of your ECs… Are you of Korean descent?
@LionKing2398 Thank you for your honesty! Haha, my 3.3 screwed my up so my highest possible UW is 3.71 (unlikely) I’ll chance you back! BTW: Im URM but not First Gen College, My mom is Harvard up to Grad School and Dad is MIT up to grad school, both peruvian. (Really high standards)
@QuintoSol Haha!!! The KIC (korean International Club) at my school lets non-korean individuals in too, we do teachers appreciation day, international food fair and other korean events, like pepero day! Im peruvian, but not korean in any way.
If you are 100% peruvian… I’d say you have very good chances of getting in. Your credentials are very impressive… Good luck!
@FuturisticMD JHU seems like a good fit for you – your SAT score is awesome and your ECs are great too, although a 3.6X is a little low, but none the less, JHU seems like a match for you. Rock the essays and best of luck!
@EIC2400 Thanks! Need a chance back?
@QuintoSol yup 100%… thanks! Need a chance back?
@FuturisticMD No problem! No thanks for the chance back although I appreciate the offer
@FuturisticMD Thanks, but I finished college many, many moons ago… I wish I had your credentials…
