do undergrad juniors and seniors at hopkins still get on campus housing, or is it like freshmen and sophomores are top priority? b/c on the website it says this "Freshmen and sophomores are required to live on campus unless they live within commuting distance with their parent or legal guardian. Sophomores may apply for a Greek exemption. Juniors and Seniors live in the Charles Village community just off-campus." because i prefer to live on campus all four years.

well "campus housing" isn't necessarily ON CAMPUS....but its not "off campus" either....the only "oncampus" housing is AMR and Bldg A&B, which are mostly freshman housing and these are located near the North gate. The other freshman housings are right across the street from the Beach/Library....its like a block of JHU housing, including Wolman, etc, and the campus apts. Charles Village is also really close from campus (south side, i think?) - walking distance of very few minutes. So it is possible to have campus housing all 4 years. I hope that makes sense and gives you a better idea of how housing is arranged.

Charles Village project -- housing for seniors and juniors (optional) -- right across the street from campus (5 min actually 5 min walk from most campus buildings). It's 2 brand new buildings being built right now as we speak they'll be done for next academic year. I'm sure one of the JHU people will be by in 1 min to tell you more.
Oh and believe me you will not want to live in University housing 2 years from now.

isn't JHU building some additional dorms just for juniors and seniors? i heard the massive construction we see when we enter hopkins right now is for additional dorms.

i do believe scorp is talking about those buildings seira.
neway whats wrong with the housing there scorp?

They are building 2 new huges buildings that will be predominately used for dorms. I have heard rumors that the new dorms will be used for sophomore housing and that the Bradford and Homewood Apartments (currently used for sophomores) will be given to Juniors and Seniors as an option.

Its a tough call whether I would say on campus housing for juniors (assuming its the Bradford or Homewood) is nicer than off campus options. They are probably a little smaller but probably cleaner and you don't have to worry about utilities at all, which is very nice. Either way, the school is greatly improving its housing options for the students which we be tremendously beneficial.

What nowherefast said about Charles Commons being for sophomores next year and juniors/seniors being allowed into Bradford/Homewood is what my RA said is being considered. Current students will supposedly get fall housing information when the semester begins (February) so that's when we'll find out exactly what's going on. Either way, the university's goal is to offer "university owned housing" to all students who want it - it's not all directly on campus, but its right across Charles Street.

and it's blocking a ton of traffic too, my buddy almost killed a girl cuz of the rearranged traffic patterns

Nothing wrong with the housing you just want to live on your own and not in Uni. housing at some pt.

do they provide tvs in lobby areas or w/e?
also does neone watch football? and if so, are we stuck with looking at yahoo sports and updating every 5 minutes to see the scores of our home team games or is there another solution?

Each floor in Wolman/McCoy has a lounge with cable TV. Building A and B each have a common lounge area with a TV. In the AMR's I think there's one central TV room (not sure since I don't live there). Other than that, some people decide to sign up for cable TV in their rooms.

As for football, one of the rooms on my floor has cable and we end up watching games every so often

OK, let's try and explain the current housing situation at Hopkins.

For all students currently enrolled at Hopkins, there is a 2 year, 2 year off policy -- meaning first 2 years on-campus housing required, last 2 years off-campus housing required. There is no guaranteed housing for the last 2 years on-campus, however when Charles Commons opens this fall there will be upperclass on-campus housing options for the first time.

For 2010 and beyond, the requirement will remain to live on-campus for the first two years (w/ excpetions for locals and greek petitions). As far as upperclass housing for the last two years things have not been finalized. The goal is to provide on-campus housing for all upperclassmen who want it in the future, but those decisions have yet to be reached.

Work in progress....

Also, check out the Hopkins Message Boards for some great conversations about dorm life, room dimensions, etc.
