I’ve heard that johns hopkins undergrads (not sure if only pre-med majors or all majors) are required to wait a year before they can enter Johns Hopkins med school. Is this true?
No, this is not true.
…And there are no “pre-med” majors, only students who call themselves “pre-med” because they’re taking all the required courses and have the intention to apply to med school.
…And undergraduate students aren’t guaranteed acceptance into Hopkins’ med school. They have to apply just like everyone else.
This is not true.
What is true is that many students take a gap year between graduating undergrad and going to med school. This gap year is commonly used to spend extra time on med school applications, get a masters degree, work, or just relax after four hard undergraduate years. However while this gap year is often encouraged by the Hopkins Pre-Professional Advising Office (there are statistics showing how students who take a gap year are more likely to be admitted to med school) it is, by no means, mandatory.
I know a few people from Hopkins (from last year’s graduating class) who went straight to med school or MD/PhD programs directly after graduating from Hopkins.
Additionally
- Hopkins undergraduates are not guaranteed admission into the Hopkins med school.
- There is no such thing as a pre-med major. Any student, in any major, can be pre-med so long as they complete the required courses.
