Hello Im currently a sophomore attending JHU undergrad and I am majoring in politcal science/economics. After MUCH thought, I realized that i reallyy want to attend med school.
Is this a silly thing to do so late in my college career..especially at a place like Hopkins?
Have any of you decided to be premed late on in your college career?

My D1 decided right before college graduation. Second semester senior year. She’s now a second year med student.

There are people with various backgrounds at Med. Schools, including, PhD’s, lawyers, MS’s, Junior of UG seems to be way earlier than some other applicants. I do not see any problem, but I do not know any details…

i don’t think you could go straight out (i.e. apply next summer) but you could probably get by with applying after graduation. How quickly do you want to get into med school/what’s your financial situation? The costlier (both time and money) but probably more relaxed option is to just do pre-med ECs and stuff and do a post-bacc after you graduate.

Of course you can do it. The first step is to talk to your advisor to see what’s involved. I’m not familiar with JHU’s policy on courses to take. Pre-med is actually not a specific major, but rather a series of courses you’d need to take in advance of medical school. In fact, I’m certain there are plenty of poly-sci doctors, since one important criteria med schools use is gpa. Investigate what courses you’d need (Bio + lab, Chem + lab, Physics + lab, Calc, etc.) plus other factors to get involved in like research. An advisor should be able to help with specifics. It’s certainly doable, but map out your next few semesters to try to fit it all in. Alternatively, you could do a post-bac, but it’s probably not necessary.
