I little off topic and I’m sorry and the mods can delete if it isn’t allowed here, but does anyone have experience buying tickets to the jimmy’s in past years? They are currently sold out and I really need 2. Currently only a few on resell sites but wondering if the Jimmy’s will officially release more closer to the date due to groups not using their allotment? Anyone have experience with this?
I asked someone who is involved with a regional and he said they are sold out. Barring finding someone who has extra tickets or trying to resell he doesn’t believe there will be more tickets. Sorry!
Maybe the venue uses volunteer ushers?
@suledamo Just in case you hadn’t heard there was an announcement they will be live streaming the Jimmy’s this year through Facebook and YouTube. It says link will be announced on their website a few days before the event. If you weren’t able to get tickets least you can watch! I know I will be!
Are there the same number of nominees this year as before? Seems like there might be more. Does anyone know who has been around?
@notmeantforivy There are 86 participants this year as opposed to I believe 80 last year. So three regions were added to the high School musical theatre awards resulting in 6 more nominees. So you are correct. There are a few more ?
One’s high school has to “opt in” to the Jimmy Awards in order to be considered as a candidate to receive a regional nomination, correct?
@Twelfthman - correct. The school my D attended just “opted in” last year.
Remember, too, that there are regions of the country where there are NO regional awards/organizations that then feed into the Jimmy Awards. For example, where my MT daughter grew up, Vermont, there were no such regional awards or organizations for MT. So, nobody from the area could qualify to ever get to the Jimmy Awards.
@soozievt - they didn’t exist where we are in 2014 (when my D graduated HS) either. Ah well. Wikapedia (that all knowing source ) says they were founded in 2009 - so I think your D would have missed anyway - right?
My daughter’s school joined a region three years ago and has to drive 6 hours to get to their regional awards ceremony. And schools can join a region in another state as long as the region has judges willing to travel. As it gains momentum more regions are participating…43 regions currently I believe.
@toowonderful Even if the Jimmy Awards were after my D’s high school career, I was aware of regional MT competitions/awards from friends in other states or clients of mine, while she was in high school. We just had nothing at all like this in Vermont. It’s certainly very cool!
None of the schools in our county participate and that used to bother me but now I like the idea of being able to appreciate the Jimmy’s without any personal investment and being able to root for my kids’ friends from the next county over. This year will be especially poignant and we’re excited about the livestream. Good luck to any of the kids of CC parents participating this year!
The live stream. Awesome!
Thx everyone for you input. I was able to get 2 more tix, yay! It breaks my heart when I hear of schools that aren’t able to participate, as this has been such a wonderful experience for my daughter. It’s the 10th anniversary this year and it has gotten bigger every year, so maybe someday it will be so widespread that everyone that wants to be involved can be involved.
No Jimmy’s in our entire state.
No Jimmy’s in our state either. I had never heard of them til I started reading CC
None in ours either.
We live 2.5 hours from any major city that participates so we have never been eligible either.
@loribelle and others Our school is 6 hours away from the closest regional awards and they still participate. And as mentioned before you don’t have to even be in the same state to be involved. But the schools have to apply to be involved and agree to some requirements like getting nominees to awards rehearsal and ceremonies. As they gain recognition new regions are added and new schools join every year. So for those interested let your theatre teachers know about it… they may not be aware it’s an option!
