jingle bells batman smells

k, now that i got your attention:

Schools I am looking at include MIT, Northwestern, Columbia, University of Michigan Ann-Arbor, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and Rensellear Polytechnic Institute. Some probable safeties (i hope) include University of Colorado Boulder and Rochester Institute of Technology

Well, these are my grades, scores, EC's, etc.

Firstly I would like to say, the high school i go to is a competitive private school with a class of 99 students. Only 1 or 2 of these students gets straight A's, and A+'s arent even a possible grade (highest grade possible is an A). Also, the American History 11th grade course and English 11 courses are not officially AP's (because my school does not give any official AP courses in English or History), but I took the AP for both of these subjects as did many kids in my grade. P.S. I am Indian, a minority class which will not be much of a help i guess .

9th Grade
English 9 (B+)
History 9 (A-)
Algebra II & Trig (A-)
Physics (A)
Spanish II (B+)
Electronic Publishing Web (A-)
Concert Band (A)

10th Grade
English 10 (B+)
U.S. History (B)
Adv. Precalculus (B+)
Accelerated Chemistry (B+)
Plant & Animal Bio. Sem. (B+)
Spanish III (B+)
Comp. Science (B+)
Electronic Publishing II-Web (A)

11th Grade
English 11 (B-)
AP Calculus I (A-)
AP Chemistry (B+)
Spanish IV (A-)
Etymology (B+)
Electronic Publishing: Dial I (Newspaper) (A-)

I have taken 4 APs this year, and plan to taking 5 AP courses next year and getting very good grades on them.

AP Chem: 4 (big disappointment)
AP US History: 4
AP English Language: 5
AP Calc AB: 5

My school does not rank or have GPAs.

SAT I: 2320 (800 Math, 780 Writing, 740 Critical Reading)
SAT IIs: 800 Math IIC
800 Physics
790 Chemistry
PSAT: 224

Accomplishments+other help: Columbia Science Honors Program (from where i get a letter of recomendation from a Columbia professor), passed AMC, Honors 9th and 11th grades, National Merit Semifinalist (prob)

ExtraCurriculars: I have focused mostly on two things: Chess and Tae Kwon Do. In Tae Kwon Do, I am a black belt, and I teach (as a paid job). In chess, I am a former Top 50 List member, and probably will get back onto 16-year old top 50 list again this summer (since I finally have time). I also spend a lot of time with computers and hope to be able to use my experience with computers as a benefit.

Volunteer Work: I am a volunteer fireman, and have volunteered 100+ hours at a Rehab Hospital, where I have worked in their information services department and also by transporting patients.

Well balanced kist, you'll certainly have some choice.

I agree; your SAT is High compared to your scores. You have an amazing shot.

Fair shot at the top of your list. Good luck!

thx, all of your advice is encouraging, also plz give input as to how i could improve my chances at MIT, Columbia, and the top schools on my list. appreciate it :)

Math/science related ECs. There are a ton of science competitions: Intel, Seimens. etc., RSI, whatever your state competitions are.

yeah definitely try local science fairs. MIT will love that.

columbia loves students who show a persistent interest in them. definitely visit at least once or twice and contact the admissions office. they keep track of that sort of stuff.

yea, for columbia i go to their science honors program once a week, so that should show my interest

BUMP, btw can anyone also elucidate which colleges are reaches, matches, or safeties? Thanks

BUMP add 100 hours to my volunteering, ~200 hrs. (cuz of this summer) when u evaluate. btw, i also wanted to not exactly make an excuse but ask a question. since my school is private, there are pretty stringent admissions into my school. everybody is smart, everybody works hard, and the top 5-10 kids at my school could probably easily be valedictorians at public schools (i was one of the smartest kids w/ good grades in my public school in middle school). would a school take into account how good others in your class are as well? since my school costs around 30k a year, everybody works their butts off to get good grades.
