So... If you get a job application and it asks "How many hours per week would you like to work?", is it okay to just say "any" instead of specify a certain number of hours? At this point, I kind of just need a job and I'd be willing to work however many hours that I'm needed... whether it be 10 or 20.

And when they ask the hours that you're available to work is it okay to put "Open to Close" for Saturdays and Sundays, since I could work any of those hours?

And who do you usually put down for references? I need three and I was thinking about putting down my band director and my guidance counselor. I wasn't really sure who to put for a third. Would it be inappropriate to put down a relative such as my uncle?

It depends on what the job you’re applying for is, but relatives are a no the majority of the time. Try to find someone who will be relevant to the job. When I applied to be a camp counsellor I asked people who had seen me work with kids and could talk about my organizational/planning skills…
If you don’t mind posting more info on the job I’d try to help.

I’d use a professional reference (someone from your parent’s law firm, other than a relative), an ethics reference (if you volunteer ask the person in charge), and a character reference (from a teacher whose class you worked very hard in).

For hours, make sure you list the time you can get there after school, then just say til close (or find out when the shop closes and list that hour). Weekends you can list any shift.

The only people who work in my parents’ law firm are my mom and dad. =/

And I was going to ask the guidance counselor, because she’s head of the Honor Council, which I’m a member of, so I thought she could speak well on my behalf. And then I was going to ask my band teacher, since he knows me really well, and I’ve put a lot of time in that program.

I suppose I could ask my cheerleading coach, but she’s only a college student… so I don’t know how good that would be?

The cheer leading coach could work as long as she can say you work hard, show up on time, and are friendly/willing to help-that’s what stores tend to look for.
