so i decided to get a part time job this summer. I just have one question. When the employer asks to give references should i give teachers and guidence counselors or just people i know outside. The problem is it asks for phone# and home addresses and im not sure how comfortable my teachers will be to giving their info even though i know they all like me as a student. And the other problem is that i dont really know too many adults outside of school besides relatives and friends parents. and im preety sure that a few the places i was looking to apply said i shouldnt give relatives as references. What should i do? Any help will be deeply appreciated.

Getting that first job is always the hardest. After you get one, you'll have some work references.

I would give teacher names and their school number, explaining that they are teachers. My daughter also used a couple of family friends as her first references. For the most part, if this is a job at a fast food place, or a store, they are just looking for someone to say - hey, s/he seems like a good kid to me, never been been in big trouble, likely to show up for her/his scheduled hours.

If you are friendly with any of your family's friends, they can be perfectly fine references too.

thank you very much for your input . I know the first job seems so hard to get. i just began the application process and every time it asks previous work experience i feel like there is no way im gonna get the job but hopefully they will understand that im only 16 and havent had much time. as for giving the school number is it ok if i give the school number even though school will close within a week.
