is it possible to get a job while doing work study? what kinds of jobs are out there? how is the pay? anything more than or in the range of 10 dollars?

there's usually a bunch of jobs available here and there. Most give out about 6-10 hours a week and pay around $8 an hour.

Yup, theres some pretty sweet jobs that you can get as student here at Cornell. Its very easy to apply and most employers aren't overly-demanding since they understand a student's primary concern should be school rather than getting to work on time.

Both jobs that I've had have payed me very well. You just have to put some effort to browse the job postings, schedule an interview, and choose the right one! It helps if you have a coveted skillset as it will help you land a job where you'll get payed more and be given more freedom.

Check Bearaccess on the 18th. Remember that no tax will be taken out, which is sooo nice! Why are you still harvardman?

What happens on the 18th?

Well, if he changes then he will lose his posts count.

Most student jobs are fairly menial. Having a "coveted skillset" as previously mentioned will help. For example, if you are good with computers there are some good nerd jobs with CIT, and if you are a hotelie you can work at the Statler of course. I know a fellow who takes home some good chunks of change working the bellstand.

How hard is it for Hotelies to get a job with the Statler? I thought almost all of them worked there, but I read that there are only about 200 student positions.

the more interesting question is, how hard is it for non-Hotelies to get a job the statler, given that the person has tons of experience in the hospitality industry. how much do you get paid there anyway? it all comes down to the cash in the end.

Hotelies will have no trouble getting jobs. You have to have those certain # of hours of experience before you graduate, and most people work at least some times there to get it. As for other students, I don't know any who have every tried to work there...

There are many, many jobs available. You could even check the Student Employment site now and see what jobs have been available in the past to give you a better idea. PM me for any more questions (I've applied to many, many jobs and held 3 throughout my freshman year).
