Are there a lot of opportunities at the rec centers? I would love to lifeguard (got my red cross certification this summer) or officiate intramural games (basketball most likely)...

Is there a high demand for these jobs--meaning should I try to apply now or wait until I get to school...

also, for those of you who have already attended ND, do you all have jobs? My mom doesn't want me to work... between school, intramurals, and clubs (planning on joining Student Managers Organization)--she thinks I won't have time to work...

comments?

thanks

Some jobs are more selective than others. I think you should be able to find one that you like, though. I'm not a huge fan of working during the year. I tutored last fall, which was good. I didn't work in the spring. For some reason, however, my gpa was a lot higher in the fall even though I had more time in the spring. I guess that's bad focus on my part.

I had a friend this year who officiated soccer games, but I doubt the demand is that high for that position. If you're going to join the managers organization, I don't know if you'll have time for a job (I don't know much about that particular organization, but I hear it's a big time commitment).

Student Managers won't be a big time commitment for you until the end of your sophomore year. You won't even start working as a freshman until the end of this upcoming year, so I would definitely try to work as a RecSports official. From what I can tell the demand isn't very high, because we always seem to have the same officials every game meaning that there aren't too many around.

My understanding is that freshmen do food service, then network their way into something better as upperclassmen. My daughter would love one of those rec center jobs, too...
