What type of job can I expect to get? Also, if I get my CPA along with my accounting minor and the math-econ joint major , is that enough to get a job in accounting? If so, how hard will it be to get a job in accounting with this combo?

If you want to get a job in accounting, I think you’d need to get your CPA (which requires 150 credits+ the required accounting classes) since you’re not an accounting major. Check your state’s requirements. I could be wrong though.

If your goal is to work in accounting and/or be a CPA, you will be much better served by majoring in accounting. You will be competing for accounting jobs with people who have accounting degrees (many of them masters due to the 150 hour rule).

My school doesn’t offer an accounting major, only a minor that will allow me to take the CPA after I graduate. But I thought that with a Math-Econ joint major + accounting minor + passing the cpa, it would help me compete for an accounting job?

Oh I see. If you have enough credits to sit for the CPA exam, then the fact that your school doesn’t offer an undergrad accounting degree shouldn’t really matter. I know UCLA (and most other UCs schools) used to offer a “business economics” degree instead of accounting/business admin. Those grads never had any trouble getting accounting positions (Big 4 included) and becoming CPAs.

Does your school have an accounting society? That would be a good place to start as far as the best majors. Check in with the accounting profs as well.

Good luck!

So yes; this am excellent combo as long as you are qualified for a CPA
