Yes, two of the students were in engineering. We had wondered if they would need to rely on applications to smaller local firms that would be less likely to have a human resources department that would screen out certain applicants. However, one student now works for Alcoa and the other for BP. The HR departments at both companies took time get to know the applicants and “passed” them on to the hiring departments. It was a pleasant surprise! I’m not saying that a felony conviction won’t cost you some opportunities, but it was really uplifting to see how many companies and licensing boards were willing to give the students a chance.</p>
