I am an international student from Pakistan and I got in University of South Florida, Tampa. I am seriously considering to attend USF for now as I continue to wait for my other decisions. I intend to major in Electrical Engineering at USF. I want to know how are the job prospects for USF EE graduates? Do they easily get jobs after graduation? Or do they have to attend a grad school? Since, I am an international student, I do not want to end up at a place where getting jobs would be most difficult. Please give me some insights regarding USF, Tampa!!

I want to invest in a place where it is worth it. Though, I have been awarded a good amount of scholarship at USF. So is it worth for an international student to invest money for the education at USF? Some one please help me!!

USF is not bad…UCF is better. I went to USF as a freshman out of high school. Now there are more engineering buildings and what not…

To answer your question, it’s not a top school, but its not a bad school at all. I haven’t been in Florida in many years but USF is accredited and is part of Tampa Bay and there should be plenty of opportunities to get jobs. Your international status will hamper you more than the school will.

@lookin4ward- Thank you for your response. But, why would my international status hamper? After graduation, my visa type will be changed to Work visa if I get a job. Do you mean to say that employers prefer US nationals over internationals when it comes to giving jobs?

There are a lot of fields in EE where they prefer US citizens. I’m not saying its a huge disadvantage. Either way, if you grad from an ABET accredited EE program and are willing to move around, finding a job will not be hard.

USF will get you any job. It is a tier 1 research university. Just make sure you understand the Visa requirements. Do job searches like “electrical engineering green card”

I’m not going to pretend that I know how visas work.

I have been to dozens of information sessions and many international students have a hard time getting an internship because they will require visa sponsorship. For example, once they graduate their school visa isn’t good anymore. I have no idea if you fall into this category, I would just advise you know exactly how those work.

That said, if that won’t be a problem and you are a good student, you should have zero issue finding a job.

(Your English is 100x better than most international students posting in this forum)
