Hi, I got accepted to both schools for an MS degree in electrical engineering, and I’m interested in
“power electronics” for renewable energy. For those who’re studying there, do you think your department has enough of this particular area? In terms of faculty, courses, research, and labs. From the websites, I sense that USF is a bit stonger, and has a more intense program for power electronics. However, I was told that UCF has professor Issa Batarseh who’s nationally considered among the best, especially in this area.

I hope to hear from you ASAP

Hi, I recommend you post in the USF and UCF forums, which are much more active that the state forum.

Some items to consider.

First, have you visited the two schools? If not, you really should before choosing between the two schools.

USF has a much better faculty to student ratio. UCF has more funding for EE research, while USF does have a Clean Energy Research Center (which you may want to look into). Since you’re an undergrad, if you want to work with Professor Batarseh, check out which undergrad classes he teaches. You’re much more likely to spend time with him in class, than doing research.

Good Luck!
