Job prospects of Caltech vs. Ivy league

Okay, so as of this moment I have been accepted to Caltech and wait listed to my first choice (a tech school which shall remain unnamed).

I still have four Ivy decisions and Stanford decisions coming in later this month.

I know it’s not the best to consider my options before acceptances are back, but I was curious:

Realistically, will the ‘name factor’ be significantly different between the schools for a COMPSCI/CompE major?

I want to make my final decision based on “fit” but I also don’t want to give up a leg up.

Also, I imagine if I want to go for a masters after undergrad it’d probably be a bit easier going somewhere other than Caltech since Caltech GPAs are generally harder to achieve (based on student impressions at least)

What do you think?

I agree- wait til your offers are in. Sounds like a potentially nice problem to have.

Most people would consider Caltech/tech school which shall remain unnamed (who do you think you’re fooling  ) to be more prestigious than the ivies for computer science. I know in my town people are more impressed by someone going to MIT than someone going to Harvard. Heck, I’m pretty sure some Yale students actually started a petition because they consider their school’s comp sci offerings too paltry. I would say that Stanford is close enough to the two aforementioned tech schools in comp sci. NONE of the schools you mentioned would give you hiring disadvantages. Go to the one that works financially and is the best fit.

I want to have at least an idea before all my decisions are in, considering I’ll only have a month from then to decide…
