Jobs at UNC?

Is it easy to find a job at UNC for undergrads? If so where? Thanks!

I know Student Stores seems to hire a lot of people…

D went into career services to see about a job and was told that all jobs on campus were reserved for financial aid students only. Franklin Street/Southpoint are options outside of UNC if you don’t have a financial aid package.

There are plenty of jobs for non work study students. Check out the Student Union, Student Stores and Carolina Performing Arts (house and tech staff as well as box office).

Not true. I know people not on financial aid that have jobs on campus.

The Daily Grind (in Student Stores) also hires non-financial aid students for sure (had three friends work there). Just remembered that…

Sophomore year - they can also apply to be a Resident Assistant, RA - in the dorms. I believe you get free housing and maybe a stipend for this work … might be worth checking in to.

A lot of my friends worked at either the library or one of the campus rec places - they hire a lot & have a big staff.

It’s definitely possible to find a job even without work study. I know people who work at the Daily Grind and the Carolina Inn, not on work study. I’ve also gotten two paid research positions, not on work study, but that’s luck of the draw. I went in not expecting to get paid and both had extra grant money they had to use.

I would also suggest applying to be an Office Assistant in a dorm, which I don’t think is work study either, or applying to be an RA later on.

Another option is to work for SafeWalk. You sign up for three hours shifts. You and a partner of the opposite gender walk people back to their dorms late at night if they want in.

You can also work for student stores, or even the post office.

Or there’s Bull’s Head inside of student stores.

Or there are always baby-sitting or nanny positions open in the Daily Tar Heel.

Or there’s Franklin St.

And that’s just off the top of my head. If you really want or need a job, you should be able to find one.

I don’t know of any place that hires just fin-aid students. I’m an international (so no fin-aid) and I have an on-campus job too.

We were told at CTOPS yesterday that they actually have more jobs on campus at times than they can find students for, so take advantage of the Career Services office!

LIke UNC on facebook - sustainability office has two openings right now they have posted on FB.
