Jobs Before MBA?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently a HS senior and I'm just doing some research ahead of time. I noticed the most valuable advice given to people who are pursuing an MBA degree is to gain work experience.

I guess I'm oblivious in this area, but what kind of jobs CAN you get after a BA (ie. psychology or business admistration) that actually can impress MBA admissions officers?

This question might be a simple answer from you guys, but I've tried searching everywhere!

It is not the kind of job that impress but rather how you do in your job that counts. Everyone starts at ground level, but what kind of progress you make from that point. Are you moving up the rank, getting more and more responsibilities. Are you taking advantage of opportunities that are available. In short, your performance is what counts. So work hard, learn as much, and do your best.

Christian is correct in that you should show upwards progress. My work history was Intern > Project Manager > Independent Contractor, and the guy that interviewed me for my MBA seemed very impressed.

While studying it is really helpful that you have a job, this will make it easier for you to balance your responsibilities. Go to a top-tier business university, and that MBA degree might be worthwhile. For the most part, however, getting an MBA makes little monetary sense anymore.
