My son is currently at John Carroll and was thinking about transferring to Xavier. Anyone have any experience at both schools - any recommendations?
We know someone at Xavier, a strong student. Unfortunately I can’t provide much feedback. Weekends are quieter than expected, didn’t seem to be taken as a negative and could be only this student. Funny as we also know someone who transferred to John Carroll this semester. Best wishes with his decision!
I applied to (and got into) Xavier University, as it is my hometown Jesuit university and my mother’s alma mater!
Xavier is a great school with really strong programs and a lot of diversity. The involvement of people in the community is amazing, and the Jesuit vibe is really felt. I was accepted into an honors program that’s pretty prestigious, and the faculty of the program and of Xavier in general is incredible, and more than willing to answer any and all questions.
Cincinnati is a pretty great city, but then again, I’m biased. It’s definitely not as big and scary as Chicago, New York, etc., but there is a lot that is important to know. There are a lot of racial tensions in the city, and a lot of crime-ridden areas. Overall, it’s relatively safe, especially in Norwood, where Xavier is located. There are a lot of craft breweries around, downtown is fairly walkable, and there is a lot of non-drinking done.
I decided not to go to X because of the financial aid package. For me to commute to Xavier, it would have been more expensive than to live on campus at Saint Louis University, which is the college I attend. Best wishes!
