John F. Oberlin Scholarship

How many people get it? Is it just another name for a grant? I've read old CC posts that say it's based on merit, but SO many people got it...

Almost anyone who gets a scholarship gets one under the name of Oberlin. Amounts will vary quite a bit from person to person. The difference between a merit scholarship and a grant is that the scholarship is awarded for all 4 years and will not decrease regardless of your financial situation. For example, if you parents win $50 million in the lottery tomorrow ;) you will still be entitled to your scholarship as long as you are enrolled at Oberlin and maintain the grades and behavior that are expected. Grants on the other hand are based on need and will change each year depending on your specific financial circumstances.

Thanks a lot :).

How many people get scholarships, though?

I think that between 55-65% of undergraduates receive non-need based scholarships of some kind or another. I imagine that the level of these awards varies quite a bit from student to student.

Oh, okay. I got an Oberlin International Grant and the JFO, Thank you!
