Here can be a transfer thread for 2018 Fall Transfers to discuss anything transfer related and list your stats that you’re applying with.

College GPA: 4.0 unweighted
SAT I from 2016 1400/1600 (680 math, 720 English)

Hello @bdylandylan, I transferred to Hopkins in Fall 2017. I am an officer in the transfer student association and involved in admissions/orientation team. Please let me know if you any questions about the process.

@DrRich thank you for responding and I’m incredibly sorry for such a late response. I stopped checking after several days of no response and completely forgot about my post. I will certainly PM you any questions. There also seems to be a more recent transfer thread that I assume people will use if they decide to post.

Hey guys, discovered this thread late but I’m also attempting to transfer to Hopkins, feeling pretty pessimistic even though my GPA is a 4.0 but it’s worth a shot right? Also @DrRich, was it hard getting used to Hopkins as a transfer student?

@Karalee where are you transferring from? I also feel pessimistic but it’s a lateral move academic wise for political science from my university to hopkins. Which program(s) are you applying for and which year will you be?

Hi I’m applying for a transfer to Hopkins too. Have you guys set up your account on the JHU admissions decision site yet?

@trixandgiggles yeah I set mine up a couple days after getting the email. Where are you transferring from?

@DrRich What were your application stats?

@bdylandylan I’m coming from a T50 university! I’ll specify the school once when we do results at the end.

Major: political science
GPA: 3.4 1st sem (I know) and 3.97 midterm report
HS GPA: 3.7 uw (senioritis killed me) school doesn’t weight but 12 APs and mostly all honors
college: top 20 liberal arts
tests scores: 1550 SAT, 35 ACT
honors: don’t really have any
achievements: student council in both HS and my current institution, many extracurriculars, political column for local newspapers and own blog, photography
Essay: Should be pretty good
recommendation: Shouldn’t be bad

With my GPA I’m not hoping much, just hope I can get accepted into a school.

Chance me!

Hello, I am a sophomore and I applied to JHU for transfer in Fall 2018 as Political Science Major. I have a weird story, I applied to a bunch of schools for transfer last year (including JHU), but only got into Cornell which was my last choice. I ended up transferring to Cornell, but I really disliked it because I was not a huge fan of Ithaca and I did not like the culture. I decided I wanted to try to transfer again.

College GPA: 4.12 Cornell GPA with 4.07 midterm GPA. 3.96 freshman GPA at Top 100 school I transferred from

SAT I: 2250 superscore (740 CR, 740 Math, 770 Writing)
SAT II: 650 Lit, 760 World History, 740 US History
Unweighted High School GPA (out of 4.0): 3.4 or 3.5 unweighted, 4.0 weighted
HS Rank: unknown, prob close to top 10%

AP:

  1. US (5)
  2. English Lang (5)
  3. World (4)
  4. Microeconomics (4)
  5. Macroeconomics (5)
  6. Gov (5)

HS awards were AP Scholar with Honor (2015), AP Scholar with Distinction (2016), National Merit Commended Student, and a bunch of awards from my HS for getting the highest grades in a special gifted and talented class, as well as in AP Gov.

College extracurriculars: Editor of a history journal. Writer for college international relations magazine as only freshman on staff (sent an article as supplemental material), College Democrats. Published article in political science journal (sent it as supplemental materials).

Job/Work Experience: Part time intern at a political organization in DC, Worked on a congressional campaign as a staffer for a year 2015-2016 (candidate wrote me a letter), worked three internships in the spring semester 2017.

Two recommendations from teachers who all like me very much, and another fantastic letter from a boss of mine.
