If I apply to Johns Hopkins BME major will my chances of getting admitted decrease? Would I be better off applying for a chemistry major? My test scores are 2250 sat (800M, 690CR, 760W) and 34 act. I have plenty of extracurricular activities, leadership, and volunteer/work experience (not gonna list everything) and a 101 gpa.

The short answer is yes. BME is the most competitive major at hopkins and thus your “chances” will decrease. However when applying to BME you are considered for admission twice: once for admission to Hopkins and another for your admission to the BME program. So it is possible to be admitted to Hopkins but not make the cut for the BME program.

saif235 is correct. Here is a article elaborating on admissions at Hopkins, although it focuses more on engineering (and BME) specifically: https://engineering.jhu.edu/include/content/pdf/engmag-summer07/decisions.pdf

Applying as a BME major should not effect your admission to the university. However, it is likely that you may be admitted to the university but not that specific major.
