Will declaring BME adversely affect my chances?

I want to do BME at Johns Hopkins, but I've heard it is a bit tougher to get into for a BME applicant. If rejected from the BME program, I would gladly matriculate as a biology major or some other kind of engineering major. So I was wondering, is BME admissions considered separate from JHU admissions? Or would it be prudent to apply as another major if I know my chances are BME aren't too good?

edit: Also, does JHU count freshmen grades?

I've seen this question answered a lot on here but I can't remember the exact details - I'm sure if you used the 'search' function on here that something would pop up in the archive.

If you want to be a BME, then by all means apply. If you don't get in as a BME, they can still admit you to the school under another major.

I'm pretty sure being admitted as a BME is separate from being admitted into the school in general.

Um, freshman grades from high school? I'm pretty sure they do. Freshman grades at Hopkins? We get the first semester covered...

No it will not.
