Hello!
I’m deciding if I should apply to Johns Hopkins since it’s definitely a reach. I would love for someone to go over my credentials. I’m mostly worried about my test scores.
I plan on majoring in biology or natural sciences.

6 AP classes at the end of senior year
A total of 4 A- and 1 B+ in all honors or AP classes (rest are A’s)
ACT: 32 (35 in math 35 in writing -not as good in reading and science)
760 Math 2 and 720 on Biology Molecular
Pretty Strong EC’s: (in my opinion) (trend in biology and French)

Very good public high school (Awarded Blue Ribbon around 2 years ago)
I would love someone else’s take
Thanks in advance
JHU is definitely a solid Target school, and I’d say you have a very high chance of getting accepted. Better scores obviously would have sealed the deal, but your definitely qualified. I have a few friends who got into JHU and they constantly tell me JHU admissions values research / publications / conference speeches very very much. I wouldn’t call JHU a reach, it’s definitely a target for you!
I was sure that Johns was a reach! Does anyone else have an opinion on this? I was going to apply to Tufts early decision2; however, I would rather go to Johns. Does it seem like a good risk to not apply ED2 to Tufts to keep doors open to Johns?
You look pretty good. My daughter got in 2 years ago, Regular Decision, with similar grades and a 33 ACT, similar Math 2 and Bio, but her EC’s were not as good as yours.
definitely wouldn’t call it a match/target. bio is a more competitive major here; overall test scores are low. Its a reach but I would still apply. GPA/transcript is extremely strong.
I am currently a student at JHU and I think that your application is very strong! Yes, your test scores aren’t superb, but it is average at our school! So you shouldn’t be discouraged. Just make sure to finish the school year off strong and have an interesting essay topic. Best of luck to you!
not the current post #7 btw…original post #7 got put into the circular file cabinet for hijacking this thread.
For OP GPA and ECs look fine but that ACT could be a deal breaker for Hopkins, just because of how competitive biological sciences is. In my opinion BU would be a match for your numbers and they have a good biology program.
Keep all of your options open. You should apply to Tufts ED2 anyways.
I’m a bit conflicted on your chances here. On one hand, your ECs are incredible. Published research and all the activities that you’ve managed to fit into your schedule along with plenty of leadership definitely put you above par. However, I just can’t get over your poor ACT score. Hopkins definitely values research ECs, but the same can be said for stats. I’ve met people with similar test scores, but they were definitely not the norm. The majority of my friends and acquaintances had 34+ or 2250+
The good thing is that even though Biology is a popular major, you apply to the overall school(KSAS, WSE, or BME) so your choice of major isn’t hurting you.
Overall, Hopkins is a reach for anyone. However, I definitely think that your ECs could potentially outweigh your test scores if you had a great essay about them
@massachusetts1 Also, how were you able to do research at Harvard? If you have the email or the name of the professor you contacted, could you please message me it? Thanks
