Welcome Bluejay! My son was a class of 2021 at Hopkins ChemBE. He had tons of AP credits he could have graduated in three years. In the end, he stayed for four years, minoring in math. Currently, he is in Hopkins grad school. No need to take GRE within Hopkins, and they give scholarship (merit) for coming from Hopkins undergrad.
Thatās great! Thank you.
Wonderful! Welcome to the Nest
thank you! Looking forward to it!
Does anyone know the acceptance rate for ED2 this year?
I have been looking for the info as well but does not seem to be anywhere I can findā¦ Iām guessing since last yearās ED-2 did not provide a significant bump above 10 % admit rate they may have gotten a reduced number of applications for this yearās ED-2 round with somewhat higher admit ratesā¦But all the same to us at this pointā¦Committed & Deposit paid
They released the information on their public newsletter page. They said they had over 3,000, which would mean a rate below 10%. They did not say how much over 3,000.
Almost same as last year thenā¦Thank you for the information !
Here is the exact snippet from their newsletter thanks to @ViolaMom12 for the pointer:
301 students were admitted to the Class of 2026 through the Early Decision II (ED II) cycle on Feb. 11. They joined the 520 students accepted through Early Decision I (ED I) in December. Over 3,000 students applied through ED II, an increase from the 2,874 that applied last year.
Also shows how high the cc membership is skewed in terms of stats and overall caliberā¦If you were going by the small sample here would have thought it is 50 % admit rate
I went to a lot of their information sessions, they insisted that the acceptance rate is the same for ED1 and ED2. Apparently thatās not true on paper, but maybe ED1 applicants are stronger in general or more folks that have āstatusā were in ED1. And I believe Hopkins got rid of legacy since 2019.
Even last year their ED1 acceptance rate was much higher than ED2.
Welcome to the Nest!
I guessed your daughter accepted since I saw the post on Pitt threadā¦
Yep spent the weekend pulling back apps and declining offersā¦
Well YAY!!! That makes me happy. Welcome to the Nest!
If this is your students top choice like it was for my D25 they will not be disappointed. They will have so many opportunities and JHU wants their students to not only take advantage but to be successful. And the students help each other. My daughter is shocked at how much support she receives from her classmates.
Also, even after school starts you will still have parent webinars! They really keep us informed. Not sure if itās normal or just due to COVID. But thereās more interaction than I received from her HS Administration and she was in private school.
Iām so glad to hear your D25 have a lot of academic support from JHU & from her classmates. Being an recruited athlete, our D22 will be putting in her 20 hour week in practices & in competing. D22 is going to carry a full load every semester since she has not been able to take any AP courses in STEM during HS due to her commitment in her sport.
Wow Congrats! One of my daughters roommate for sophomore year is an athlete.
Well even without prior AP courses if your student took Honors level courses or attended a rigorous HS she should be fine. Is she going into a STEM major? If not, even better. However, for math, trust the assessment exam JHU requires. My daughter only took AP Calc AB and did not get a 5 on the exam, which is required for AP credit, BUT tested well enough for Calc 2 and only a point away from Calc 3. Since she didnāt have an AP credit took Calc 1 (for Engineers) and it was just too easy. Allowed her to focus on her other courses but was a waste of money. Her reasoning she didnāt want to take a 3rd higher level math which she would have had to do not having an AP credit.
Also for math they have something called PILOT which is required for all Calc students. Itās sort of a study session so thatās a plus too. Could also be the reason for the easy āAā .
So lots of support. Good luck and Welcome to the Nest.
When do RD decisions come out?
18th of this month
Thanks again! We were looking at the PILOT & Iād think our D22 will benefit a lot from it.
Our plan is for her to take the AP Calc A/B at a JC over the summer; then if she scores high in the AP test then she wonāt have to take Calc 1 at JHU, if not she can always take Calc 1 then treat it like a review course.
Last year my D22 took Honors Bio & with my wifeās help in prepping her she took the AP test & did very well so weāre keeping our fingers crossed hoping sheāll do just as well this summer.
RD applicant portal change ā check list was removed and note that they will contact via email if any pieces are missing. Same for all?
