Johns Hopkins Fall 2017 Transfers

Also waitlisted.

@EdwardL I would call and ask!

@VaishS good point!

Accepted! Wohoo! I just wanted to chime in for those of you that might feel down about rejection or waitlist decisions. I’m a California Community College Biology major, hoping to attend med school post graduation. I was waitlisted at both Vanderbilt and Rice and was completely expecting a rejection from JHU. It was a HUGE reach school for me which goes to show how truly random the admissions process can be. I’m now certain that schools really look for students that holistically fit their school, although I wasn’t the perfect candidate other places, a very kind admissions officer felt that JHU was the place for me :slight_smile:

@CCtransfer2017
Congrats.
That is interesting because I was accepted at Vanderbilt and Rice but waitlisted at JHU. In my opinion, I don’t think that means that admissions are a crapshoot, but rather that different schools are looking for different qualities in students.

would anyone want to make an accepted students groupme?

@packman012 sure, the FB group doesn’t seem to work…

Does anyone know if and when there will be an admitted students day at Hopkins? Haven’t heard anything as of yet and am still waiting to get into the FB group.

@Sparks343 as far as i know, no, but we do new student orientation with the freshmen

It takes forever to be added in the FB group… btw, can you guys choose your housing and dining plan? It says available from May.12th on the myJHU, but the housing application doesn’t seem to be available to me

@EdwardL yes i just google searched “hopkins housing portal” and it came up and i was able to log in and select a housing plan

@packman012 thx man. just emailed to clarify the matter. my housing designation is on-campus according to the decision site, tho I will have completed four semesters this summer. I was quite happy about that designation initially. now i dont even know where I’ll be living or eating…

In major need of advice…currently deciding whether to stay at UVa or transfer to Hopkins. I’m conflicted because I am interested in politics, which UVa is a great place for. I love the school’s charm and its history. The campus is beautiful and the academics are still excellent. On the other hand, JHU also has a well known politics program, though the school is very oriented toward the hard sciences and engineering. I just visited the school, and I actually thought the campus was very nice (Baltimore not so much). I also feel that a lot of the students seem very stressed out at Hopkins, and Hopkins doesn’t seem to have the same fun atmosphere that UVa has. The reason why I sought to transfer was more for social reasons, and I do feel like I would probably fit in more with Hopkins kids; but perhaps I haven’t found my niche at UVa yet. I’ve also done really well academically at UVa (and going to be preaident of a legislators club next year), and because I’m considering law school in the future, my GPA is really important–so I fear that at Hopkins, I might not do as well. Help me out!!!

@Gdawg30 I don’t know if you have made a decision already but here’s my opinion. The transferring process is long, annoying, and exhausting. If you are willing to go through the whole thing, go for it. But remember that during the process some credits might fall behind, your academics could drop, and getting used to a new campus and system is hard as well. I believe UVA has a much greater program in your field. JHU is focused on the sciences and international relations, which is why I applied to Hopkins. Also, take into consideration that Hopkins is a smaller school. If your transferring reasons are because of social reasons, I believe you have more chances of having a social like at UVA. I don’t want to say what you should or shouldn’t do. I am only putting out there what you may encounter in your transfer experience. It is up to you to make the decision. :slight_smile: GOOD LUCK

Has anyone received their financial aid package? I don’t know why they are taking forever to evaluate my documents. I’ve gone back and forth with my adviser and nothing. I would like to have it before I can make a decision.

@DrRich Thanks! I actually decided to stay. :slight_smile: Also, I got my fin aid info when they released the decisions online–but they only gave me a federal loan lol

@Gdawg30 I’M GLAD! I hope everything goes well.
