Johns Hopkins Major Question

Hi I am an admitted student to Hopkins and I am definitely planning to enroll; however, the only problem I am having is choosing a major on the candidate reply form. The humanities at Hopkins are amazing and I am very interested in literature and writing. I just don't know which is the better major for me: English or Writing Seminars? Does anyone know any distinctions between the two? I know that Writing Seminars is more creatively driven, but are the degrees more useful for certain careers? Thank you!

don’t worry. It’s so easy to switch majors that it’s not that important what major you go in as (unless you’re BME)

Okay, thats great to hear. I can see which I’m more interested once I start taking classes. Thanks!

That being said, I believe English is more literature-analysis based, and writing sems is an equivalent to a creative writing major.

As an Arts and Science Freshman, you don’t have a declared major, so it doesn’t really matter which one you select now. Also, I applied as a Mathematics Major (Arts and Science school) and switched very easily (in one email) to Applied Mathematics (Engineering school). So even if you declare one major, it is very easy to switch to a different major.
