Hi, hopeful applicant here. Just wondering what undergrad life is like at hopkins? I’m interested in the medical field, which requires a high GPA, but I’ve heard that students at hopkins have on average a 3.3-3.4 GPA, which is much lower than most med school matriculants. However, I’ve also heard that hopkins students have a slight advantage because of the school’s prestige in med school applications. Can a current student/graduate from hopkins help?
I guess there are two questions here:
- What is undergrad life like at Hopkins? Hopkins boasts a wide variety of students from all walks of life with all kinds of interests which creates a very diverse atmosphere. There are a plethora of clubs and activities students can join and take part in depending on their interests, background, etc which allow them to interact with students from all over campus. Hopkins also boasts a set of active Greek organizations for the Greek life inclined.
- Premed GPAs Yes Hopkins undergrads have an average GPA of around 3.3-3.4. But the rigor of hopkins aside you need to have a 3.5+ GPA to be a competitive med school applicant - that's straight from the premed advising office. So you will need to be a slightly above average hopkins student to be a truly competitive med school applicant.
