So i am stuck between deciding to apply ED to one of those two school. Money is not an issue.

I want to go into Biology/Neuroscience (both school offer that) and would probably apply for med school after undergrad. I probably have a greater chance of getting into U of Rochester ED than i do for Hopkins.

I know not a lot of kids get into Hopkins med school after undergrad there... how is it for the Rochester med school? How would a degree in each school compare?

Can someone convince me that U of Rochester is better than Johns Hopkins or vise versa?

Objectively, Hopkins is far and away the better school based on any statistical measure. Not sure what there is to argue here. Hopkins undergrads also have the most representation at Hopkins med. The rumor that Hopkins undergrads are disadvantaged for Hopkins med admissions has been rebuked countless times. Hopkins will be much much harder to get in than Rochester, so choose on fit not maximizing chances. ED will not magically get you in if you aren’t competitive in the regular decision round anyways. Additionally, if you don’t think you’d like URochester as your top choice, then don’t apply there ED. Same goes for Hopkins.

Have you visited either or both schools? They are both outstanding schools and offer fine opportunities for your field of interest. They do however have different personalities and campuses, so before making any decision about ED application, I would encourage visits.

Either school will prepare you well for med school. Choose based upon which school you prefer AND which school you think you’d do better in academically (though neither are “easy” schools). Look at the research professors are doing and see which you’d prefer (though there are joint research projects being done by both schools).

I get what you’re thinking, I was in a similar position as you during my junior-senior summer, trying to figure out where to apply. Keep in mind, it’s not about which school is better. It’s all about where you’re going to be able to fit in and succeed. Hopefully you visited both schools and have a feel for how good of a fit you are.

Now people have been saying that Hopkins is a “better school.” Whatever, that shouldn’t matter because your aim is to find the perfect school for you. No point attending JHU if your abilities aren’t up to their standard. Not saying that this is the case with you, just that it’s always a possibility with anyone.
