I started out my first year in Berkeley without entering a dorm, and I probably won't next year either. I like the idea of a brotherhood, but I'm pre med MCB and I'm concerned about the time commitment. I'm going to be taking Ochem next fall, so is that really something I wanna be taking while joining a fraternity? Is it even possible for an MCB major to join a fraternity and get into med school?

Also, I've heard there were medical fraternities on campus. are those the typical fraternity experience, partying social gatherings etc? I've also heard a lot about TKE and am kind of interested in joining them

Sorry these are a lot of questions any and all input will be deeply appreciated

Anybody have any idea? anything will help

I don’t think a lot of the users here are in a fraternity or sorority. But from the info there is, I’d say…

Time: I don’t think time is such a big issue. I am sure there will be time for you to study. Of course the more party heavy fraternities will probably have more parties which will diminish your time to study. But if this is an issue

MCB with Fraternities: In the end, you know your limits. I’ve never taken O-chem, but I hear it can be a challenge. If you can manage your time wisely, I’m sure you can find a way to do both. Again, you know your limits.

-Pre-med fraternities: To me, they looked like more of a club than an actual fraternitiy. But they have a 90 something percent acceptance rate so…

I’m in a social fraternity which happens to have many engineers and a handful of pre-med people. You can definitely balance your schoolwork with fraternity life, but you may need to be selective about where you rush. Some places will consume your life during your pledge semester, others will be more reasonable.

Also I strongly suggest that you explore many options during rush week. Some of my friends settled on one fraternity early without looking at the other options and later regretted it.

If you want any comments on specific fraternities, feel free to PM me.

KnitKnots you’re right it’s up to me to know my limits

Christopher546, thanks for the input. i’ll PM you
