I’m currently a student at uSyd (Australia) who has been accepted for a yearly international exchange to UT, starting this Fall. I am keen to embrace the ‘all-american’ university experience and with this have always adorned the idea of joining a sorority.
As an Australia I’m not familiar with the terms/timeline/requirements of recruitment so basically my questions are,
Do sororities recruit exchange students?
And if so, what is the process?
Lastly, can you join as a junior (I will be just shy of turning 21)… or is that too old?
No, sororities do not recruit exchange students.
do juniors still associate with the greek social life or is that more of a ‘lowerclassment’ sort of scene
At some schools, students of any age are accepted at sororities. Most pledges are freshmen, and a few are sophomores. It’s up to the house and what they need to balance their house. You can look on the school website and find the panhel group. There should be information there about the recruitment procedure and how you can sign up.
Some houses might be very interested in having you join even if you’ll only be there for a year. You’d still be a member for life, and maybe an active collegiate until you graduate.
