I’m currently a student at uSyd (Australia) who has been accepted for a yearly international exchange to USC, starting this Fall. I am keen to embrace the ‘all-american’ university experience and with this have always adorned the idea of joining a sorority.
As an Australia I’m not familiar with the terms/timeline/requirements of recruitment so basically my questions are,
Do sororities recruit exchange students?
And if so, what is the process?
Lastly, can you join as a junior (I will be just shy of turning 21)… or is that too old?
My D had a young woman in her sorority pledge class in a similar situation. She was at USC for one year from the UK and wanted to experience everything USC had to offer. So a sorority will accept an exchange student. However, I believe USC just changed recruitment to spring semester and requires 12 units at USC before allowing a student to enter the process. There is a lot of information on the USC panhellenic council website regarding recruitment.
^^ that’s true, recruitment is in the spring now! However, I also knew an exchange student in that situation who was also a junior at the time. He joined a fraternity in the spring semester, but since he was only here for that one semester, he got a so-called social bid (from what I understand, that means you don’t pledge but are technically an active for one semester and that’s it). It might be different for sororities, though!
