I believe you need to be admitted by Julliard as well in order to participate in this program.

okay thank you.

does anyone have anymore details about the joint program? any information would be great.

BTW admissions to Julliard is highly competitive; its admission rates are lower than Harvard’s.

You need to apply to Juilliard and Columbia, and mention on both applications that you plan to apply to the dual degree program. It’s very competitive, and even if you are accepted at both schools you may not be accepted to the program.

The program allows you to complete a degree both at Columbia and at Juilliard in 5 years. The first 2 or 3 years, you are a Columbia student taking lessons at Juilliard, this is called the Juilliard exchange. Things change up a bit later, and you have to be evaluated to see if you can continue the program, etc.

Personally, I wouldn’t recommend it. From what I hear from people who are doing it, it’s absolute hell. You have to be up-to-par at both Columbia and Juilliard, and the schools are hard enough if you’re only in one. You have to give up crucial practice time to do homework, you have to give up crucial studying time to practice. Many people don’t actually finish the program… and really, you’re spreading yourself thin, only dedicating yourself halfway to both schools.

Hope that helps!

actually, i spoke to 2 joint degree students who pretty much believed it was the best thing that ever happened to them. i guess it depends on who you talk to.

just out of curiosity, how many are accepted to the program each year? How many apply?

i have no clue how many apply, but from what i hear, the number who are accepted fluctuates. the website says 8-10, an admissions officer i spoke with said 3-5. but then a friend of mine doing the double program said that there are 8 of them altogether in the school right now… so i’m a bit confused about the stats…
juilliard is actually the school that decides (based on audition scores and comments) whether you will be allowed to do the joint program. after juilliard decides, you still have to wait and see if columbia accepts you.

oh and, i have no clue what the premed program at columbia is (is it a special one or just a premed track?) but i do know that you cant do col/jyard if you’re planning on applying to seas… cc only.

There is premed concentrations and premed counselling. There’s also a set of premed requirements one needs to complete in order to apply to medical school. That’s all I know.
