...Journalism & East asian studies. Wesleyan? Berkeley?

Wesleyan's my first choice.

Just thought I'd start out with that.

Anyway, with that in mind, I would like to become a journalist, specializing in Asia. And so, I will hopefully be majoring in East Asian Studies (if I get in of course). But there's no journalism major--there's a writing certificate.

So I'm debating with myself.

I also want to go to UC Berkeley. It's either my second or third choice. It has a great East Asian Studies program AND a journalism program which I can double major in, with the Graduates Journalism School, aaaand a MJour/MA which I can specialize in Asian Studies--"Journalism & Asian Studies" :o Which sounds amazing.

I have no idea if I can get in though. I'll have to see.

Anyways, is there any kind of journalism major-ish thing at Wesleyan all? Will I be able to fullfill the requirements if I apply to the J-School in UC Berkeley if I do?

Any suggestions would be great!

People go to J-School directly from Wesleyan all the time. Writing is an integral part of the entire curriculum (including the sciences) and opportunities abound for sharpening your journalistic skills in student-run venues.
Thanks for the reply! I’ll definitely read up on her (:

In addition, as a much smaller campus than is Berkeley, Wesleyan gives you lots of opportunities to actually do journalism, such as with The Wesleyan Argus, which appears on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Long ago when I was a College of Social Studies major there, I wrote a series of articles on ecology, the first that The Argus published. That led to a summer job immediately upon graduation with one of the leading daily newspapers in Connecticut.
Thank you! Yes, I’ve been thinking of working at the Argus, if I get in (crosses fingers) so I still need to research it a little more. From what I know, there’s other newsletters around the school right? Ahh, I still have to see about them. Thanks!
