Journalism Programs With Assistantships/Fellowships/Great Financial Aid

Hi there. As the title of my thread indicates, I am looking for some grad programs that have assistantships or fellowships for Master's students. I know that many of the top programs like NYU, Columbia, and Northwestern don't have these kinds of opportunities because the curriculum is either 2 or 3 semesters. However, I have seen some programs with great financial aid.

MIT's Comparitive Media Studies programs for example has great financial aid for their students, including full tuition remission and a stipend for 9 months. Unfortunately, they shut down their grad program for the next year.

LSU offers about a $10,000 stipend for Master's students and a full tuition remission as well.

Does anyone know of similar programs that support their students and don't expect them to plunge into $50,000 of debt to get an education in Journalism?

FWIW, I had a 3.64 gpa at a top school and got a 1380 and 5.5 on the GRE, if that helps.

I just wanted to bump this before it fell off the first page.

If any of you know anything about assistantships or financial aid for journalism programs, please let me know.

i don’t know of any masters programs with financial aid. i’m surprised to hear that MIT or LSU funded their students at all. granted, i’m surprised to hear both have journalism programs, so that should tell you something.

you don’t need the journalism degree to be a journalist. if the funding is a problem (and for 99% of the people out there, it is), then just start working. start at a small local publication and work your way up.
