Hey kmr223 did you get an interview offer? How did you hear? Where do you go to school?

Thanks

No, I told them I wanted investment banking and the only position they had available was in S&T. There was literally ONE spot open. Hahaha… Oh, well!

I applied online so I’m not hoping much. My application might not even be read. ■■■.

I’m pretty sure they’re not done contacting people yet, but honestly there’s only about 30 spots in this program and from what the Penn recruiter said, at least half are filled by URMs

^ Makes me feel a little bit better since I’m an ORM -_-

kmr (or anyone else reading this): Is there anything else you guys are applying to?

I was part of this program last year. Aquamarine had it right, they didn’t ask me any strictly technical finance question, I was asked a lot about my resume, strengths, weaknesses, etc. I also got some brainteasers and kind of like case questions. The two I remember were “how many slices of pizza were at last night?” and something dealing with fourier transform (presumably because I’m from MIT). I opted out of the actual internship because since there was such limited spots, the wanted to put me in IT because I had a background that fit that type of work. I figured I mine as well work for a tech company then in IT at JPM, so thats what I did.

As for applying, i went to info-session here at school and applied through MIT’s career site. For those who haven’t heard back yet, I know I’m going to be at JPM this summer and I’m actually going to be helping with the interviews. At MIT, the candidates are notified Feb 2 if they got interviews so there’s still some time.

To people who were offered positions or even interviews last year:
What do you feel set you apart? Was it merely a GPA/target school thing, or was there something really special that you feel got you the interview? Also, when offered the interview/position, were you a freshman or sophomore?

Its got to be more than gpa… got denied an interview this year 3.9 wharton.

My friend with 3.86 got interview and I got the interview but with a 4.0, both of us are freshmen at UVA. The VP of Sales and trading said they are taking 8-10 for S&T from freshman and sophomore. I applied for IB but met with the S&T guy last night at the pre-interview reception

URM/connections + target school. Definitely not just GPA since I know 3.9/4.0s from Wharton with previous financial experience who didn’t get an interview

Yea although my GPA was fine I would definitely say that what got me the interview was probably being from a target school and having known the recruiter well. I was a part of a student group and thus I had interacted with our school recruiter at least 10-15 times. So she knew who I was and was the one who told me to apply despite not really being to to interested. I was a freshman also.

URM is definitely a major factor

I just got an interview from JPM’s fresh-soph program. I’m a sophomore and I don’t really know anything technical. Does anyone know what kinds of questions they ask and how much they would expect me to know?

Your Intro and background, how you got interested in Finance?

Why Investment Banking (at least know M&A and underwriting process) and not S&T or research and similarly vice versa

What activities do you have other than academical?

If you say something about stocks or financial news be ready for a technical question such as where S&P 500 closed yesterday or the 10year treasury rate, major deals of the week/month, or how do you value stocks(if you said you invested in stocks), also things like how can firms raise capital(different methods and their relative advantages and disadvantages)?

a time when your management and prioritisation skills were considerably tested.

2 weaknesses and how do you want to improve yourself?

if he/she doesnt like you, might throw in a brain teaser or two like 33 times 29 or even worse something like how many different kinds of drinks were being served last night (pre-interview reception)
After the interview send an email thanking him/her
That is all I feel you will face!!
Good Luck!

What are the chances next year as an applying freshman from Brown? What if I have a first semester GPA of 3.8+, Econ and Calc class first semester, good high school ECs, and I am Native American.

your chances still arent high cuz ur a freshman unless ur baller enough to have BB ibd b4 freshman yr and have excellent network.

thats not true at all. if you are a urm at an ivy with a top gpa, you actually should have a reasonable shot at a bb soph program. none of the urm sophs i know who did these programs even had any prior banking experience (few even had finance experience), let alone a strong family network or bb experience. Most spots in these programs are reserved for minorities. i’m at princeton, though, so i dont know what would qualify as a “top” gpa at brown.

dude, he’s a freshman, totally different case from sophs. And also, if you’re familiar with wall street, you’ll know that Brown is not looked upon with impressiveness. They don’t have GPA, which puts him at a disadvantage. AND its not a target school. As a freshman, he better have some experience.

nevermind, misread it as a freshman applying next year (as a soph). in that case, just get a good gpa this year then dont worry about it. go do something fun with your summer. A urm with a 3.8-3.9 won’t have any trouble at all getting into banking assuming you interview decently.

has everyone received word from this program yet? I still have yet to receive a response… assuming thats a bad thing??
