The interviews have been conducted, and I’m pretty sure the decisions have already been made.

Yeah, I believe all the decisions are out. People I know have gotten their offers.

I know it’s hard to get an internship especially in this job market, but everyone is making it sound so much harder than it really is. You don’t need to have a 4.0 or above. A 3.8 is not the minimum to get into a good investment bank. I have a senior friend who got a job at UBS, another at JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch, and Barclays that have around 3.6-3.7. I wouldn’t say my school is target school but it is decent enough. Do not be so intimidated by investment banking profession. There are plenty of ways to get in and one such means is through networking. The friend who got the job at JP Morgan had a professor that year that introduced him and two other people who got jobs there. Also, do not apply to only the big i-banks. There are plenty of boutique investment banks that specialize in for example providing advice to niche clients. Also, any experience in anything that relates to finance will make you stand out more than some other kid who might have a better GPA. Again, don’t let the GPA issue let you down.

Just FYI, GPA is probably one of the least important factors at the end of the day. Have over a 3.5 and you’re good. Threshold might be higher for freshman/sophomore programs, but it’s unlikely to make or break your candidacy as long as you have good work experience.

I got interviews with GS, JPM, and Citi for Corp. Finance internship. Got offers from JPM and Citi. I go to a semi-targeted state school whose annual tuition is $4,000 LMAO. I am a minority student with a 3.6 GPA double majored in Bus Eco and Acc in my Junior year. Started my own organization and won awards (easy to do). I had several previous internships in Fin, Acct, and Gov since I live in a large city. Pretty much they want a well rounded person that they can have a conversation at lunch with.

I’m a junior in HS, kmr, how did you manage an internship after HS? That’s really inspiring actually, I would love to know how to accomplished that

Depends on where you live. If you live in a small college town then it will be really competitive and the pickings are slim for internships. This is why I opted for a college near a city, so I could have access to internships while in school. While in your freshman year you should try to get an officer role in two organizations in the second semester, by summer you can apply to internships demonstrating your work ethics with your high GPA. Try to get something interesting that relates to your major that you can tell a story about or demonstrate your abilities in the firm.

Do the same thing again in your sophomore year but now you have to get some recognition by gaining some kind of award that makes you stand out among your peers (uniqueness points). By September, you should apply for internships. If you are still on the path, by summer you should land a decent internship in finance, government, or banking. This internship should relate or lead to to the skills that you want to acquire at your next big internship in your Junior year.

By your Junior year, you should have built up your teamwork, networking, leadership, and analytical skills. Also your GPA needs to be 3.5-3.75. Practice on your interviewing skills (Vault and WSO guides) and get your stories down to demonstrate all these qualities. At this point, your interviewers should be eating up your stories and knowledge, if you have not done this, then you have not listen to what I have told you. Godspeed!

Does anyone have the link for this year’s application. The JP Morgan website does not have a direct link from the “Internships for Freshmen and Sophomore Page” to the application for it. The Job-search under how-to-apply seems only to contain a list of regular summer internships for Juniors mostly. And none of them seem to be the specific 9-week freshman/sophomore internship.

D is recruiting back at her school tonight.

I gather it is kind of an open thing. Kind of like college recruitment. We encourage you to apply, and then we get to reject you.

Anyway, she told me she expected several hundred students and her company will untimely only select a few for interviews for summer internships.

anyone has a link for this?
